Ameresco has a new opportunity for an Electrician in Portsmouth, VA for a new CHP plant, consisting of two gas turbine generators with HRSGs, one steam turbine, three package boilers and the associated balance of plant equipment. The CHP plant will run 24/7/365. The Electrician will be responsible for electrical maintenance of the CHP, Waste Treatment Plant, and related infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoots, repairs, calibrates and performs preventative maintenance on digital and analog control systems, plant instrumentation, and power plant low and medium voltage equipment.

  • Installs, repairs and maintains a variety of plant equipment including, but not limited to, power plant equipment, lighting systems and AC and DC motors.

  • Makes assessment of power generation controls, steam turbine/generators, and combustion turbine/generators.

  • Maintains accurate and up to date instrumentation preventative maintenance schedules and calibration data on instrumentation, control systems and electrical equipment.

  • Monitors, installs and repairs steam and combustion turbine generator components.

  • Maintains and repairs HRSG, fuel, combustion and safety management system devices and equipment.

  • Assists contractors with specialized turbine, boiler and auxiliary systems testing.

  • Inspects, troubleshoots, repairs, calibrates and maintains electronic systems.

  • Performs preliminary assessment on pumps, fans, burners, air compressors, motors and electric and valves.

  • Ensure the site is run a safe manner by adhering to all standard industry, Navy safety protocols and internal company procedures, including preparing job specific hazard analysis.

  • Ensure the site complies with all required environmental permits, in particular proper disposal of waste.

  • Ensure Contract Compliance with our Customer with regards to all maintenance requirements – typically OEM recommendations.

  • Assist in the implement and continued improvement of the Preventative Maintenance Program for the site using the asset maintenance computer tracking system.

  • Focus on customer satisfaction.

  • Be proficient in the use of the Ameresco Asset Management Software System AssetPlanner©

  • On call for emergencies 24/7/365.

  • Travel as required.

  • Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in industrial plants.

  • Solid computer skills - proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)

  • The ability to work in different environmental conditions.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Valid Drivers' License in good standing, issued by state of residence.

  • Ability to successfully complete position training and testing requirements.

  • This position may require eligibility to Review DoD Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI)

  • This position may require the ability to obtain a DoD Non-Escort Access Badge.

The anticipated hourly range for this role is $33.65–$48.80 per hour (presented in good faith). In addition to base pay, employees receive a comprehensive benefits package, such as health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off, and may be eligible for performance incentives, bonuses, commissions, or equity, depending on the role. Actual pay will depend on factors such as internal equity, skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. This range supports our commitment to pay transparency and compliance with applicable laws. Compensation may vary by work location, including remote arrangements. We disclose salary ranges and benefits in all required external and internal postings and will provide further details upon request at any stage of the hiring process.
