TECHNICAL EDITOR

Job Profile Summary:
 

As a Technical Editor, you will participate in researching, analyzing, and creating technical documentation such as end user guides, process/procedure documentation, training materials, and technical communications. An attention to detail and correct usage of formatting, grammar, and spelling is a must. This position also requires a strong ability to learn quickly and understand technical language and terminology around the products and systems being supported. The successful candidate must be able to work independently in a team environment and be flexible around evolving needs while managing both schedule and overall commitments in order to meet project deliverables.

This role will perform cross-functional support between two different programs.

Candidates should be prepared to provide writing samples.

In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Participating in researching and compiling technical data for use in various operations and maintenance manuals, training materials, system design documents, and other technical documentation.
  • Obtaining data from review of documentation, interviews with client and project personnel (SMEs), drawings, schematics, reports, and the study of published material. 
  • Developing outlines and drafts for review and approval by technical specialists and stakeholders ensuring that final documents meet applicable contract requirements and regulations. 
  • Applying an approved template to documentation and conducting 508 checks for final delivery.
  • Translating technical information into clear, readable documentation to be used by both technical and non-technical users. Documentation includes technical documents, business proposals, memos, reports, user manuals, knowledge base articles, status reporting, briefings and presentations, functional descriptions, system specifications, guidelines, special reports, and other project deliverables to meet contract requirements.
  • Organizing and maintaining documents in a documentation repository.
  • Proofreading and providing feedback on materials prepared by peers.
  • Developing and maintaining current knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, professional training, and work experience.
  • 2+ years of related experience preparing technical documentation.
  • Excellent writing/editing skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Familiarity with remediation of technical documentation to comply with accessibility standards such as 508 compliance.
  • Familiarity with SharePoint and version control procedures.
  • Experience with Jira/Confluence

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Familiarity with Agile approaches such as scrum and SAFe are highly desired.
  • Experience/background within the healthcare industry and/or government contracting is desirable.
  • Experience with generative AI tools, strongly preferred

The likely salary range for this position is $56,525 - $76,475. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
