Senior Python Developer

Company Description

We are looking for a Senior Python Software Engineer with at least 5 years of professional experience developing backend applications using Python to join our engineering team. In this role, you will help design, build, maintain, and evolve scalable backend services that power our platform.

You will be responsible for implementing high-quality software solutions, optimizing application performance, and contributing to the architecture and long-term evolution of our systems. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will participate in technical design discussions, mentor fellow engineers, and promote engineering best practices. This role requires deep technical expertise in Python, Django, distributed systems, and modern software engineering principles.

Job Description

• Design, develop, and implement new functionality for decoupled backend services.
• Maintain, enhance, and refactor existing backend applications to improve scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
• Analyze and optimize application performance, database queries, and overall system efficiency.
• Take ownership of backend services throughout their lifecycle, including architecture, deployment, production support, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
• Participate actively in technical design discussions, solution architecture, and project planning sessions.
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality software solutions.
• Review code, provide constructive feedback, and champion engineering best practices through peer collaboration.
• Mentor and support other team members by sharing technical expertise and assisting with complex engineering challenges.
• Troubleshoot production issues using profiling, monitoring, logging, and diagnostic tools.
• Produce and maintain clear technical documentation, architectural diagrams, and design specifications.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements to the engineering stack where appropriate.
• Effectively utilize AI-powered development tools (such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or Codex) to accelerate software development while ensuring code quality, correctness, security, and maintainability.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of professional experience developing backend applications with Python.
• Strong commercial experience building web applications using Django and the Django ORM.
• Solid experience working with relational databases, particularly MySQL.
• Experience designing, developing, and consuming RESTful APIs, GraphQL, or similar service interfaces.
• Experience working with distributed systems and asynchronous messaging technologies such as Celery.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, software design patterns, clean architecture, and distributed system design.
• Experience using Git-based version control workflows, including branching strategies, pull requests, and code reviews.
• Experience writing technical documentation and software design specifications.
• Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and performance optimization skills using profiling tools, SQL execution plans, application monitoring tools (e.g., New Relic), and related technologies.
• Ability to work independently, take ownership of technical solutions, prioritize tasks effectively, and proactively resolve issues.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to participate in technical discussions and mentor other engineers.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with supporting technologies such as Redis, Memcached, Elasticsearch, and Celery.
• Experience building, deploying, and operating cloud-native or highly scalable backend services.
• Experience working within Agile/Scrum development environments.
• Hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or Codex) for code generation, testing, debugging, refactoring, and code review while applying sound engineering judgment to validate and improve generated output.
• Experience mentoring junior and mid-level engineers and contributing to engineering standards and best practices.
