Job description

NOTE: 

While we offer flexibility in daily schedules, the role is expected to align broadly with U.S. East Coast business hours to support collaboration with key stakeholders.


Position Overview:

Reporting to the Senior Director of Localization Engineering, this role is responsible for providing support internally for specialized, technical file types and processes in translation.  This includes but is not limited to for the successful development and implementation of technical solutions for Questel’s clients to optimize the utilization of our products and services and ensure customer satisfaction.  This role will typically work on projects that involve software, website or CMS, single-source authoring, e-learning, AI voiceover, and other requests that would be automized with automation.


Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Respond to requests for Localization Engineering from internal customers
  • Advise on or test processes during client onboarding for Account Services
  • Attend calls with clients to serve as the technical advisor for Sales or Account Services
  • Collect customer requirements, whether during onboarding or quoting
  • Prepare quote details and files for Client Solutions
  • Specify the full project workflow during quoting, if needed for technical projects
  • Create memoQ filters for file import
  • Carry out internal job requests from Project Managers for orders
  • Integrate translations into the source files
  • Perform engineering checks on files to ensure their completeness and functionality
  • Make formatting adjustments by language, as needed
  • Create LQA guidance for linguists on complex projects
  • Document new processes at the order, client, or department level
  • Attend and participate in weekly departmental meetings
  • Work on special projects and other duties as assigned

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree required.  At least 2 years’ experience in technical/localization project management or engineering required. In addition, any combination of education, experience and training which provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Able to qualify, identify, and clarify client needs through effective questioning and listening
  • Able to analyze and synthesize information and evaluate external client needs as they correlate to Localization Engineering
  • Able to determine whether an existing process or a new process is needed
  • Confidence in presenting to internal and external management
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, using professional tone and language; tactful and diplomatic with a clear, straightforward, courteous, and cooperative manner when dealing with others
  • Detail-oriented, organized, thorough, and accurate, with the ability to work quickly and steadily in a focused manner
  • Strong attention to detail and able to maintain accurate records
  • Ability to deal with frequent changes, delays, interruptions, and unexpected events
  • Possesses initiative, persistence, ability to solve problems, and enthusiasm for learning
  • Strong ability to multitask, prioritize, and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and decision-making abilities
  • Strong problem-solving and negotiation skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Skilled at working effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Foreign language proficiency a plus

  • Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • memoQ (CAT tool)
  • Passolo
  • MadCap Flare, Capture, and Lingo
  • BeyondCompare or WinMerge
  • Articulate RISE and Storyline
  • Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Adobe Photoshop

 

Required general technical skills/knowledge:

  • HTML, CSS
  • XML
  • RegEx
  • General understanding of software and website concepts
  • Strong technical research and troubleshooting skills

 

Preferred technical skills/knowledge:

  • JavaScript
  • VBA and macros (Excel and/or Word)
  • Advanced Excel formulas
  • PowerGrep
  • Windows batch files
  • Website translation experience, especially proxy-based
  • Chrome Dev Tools
  • WordPress or WPML
  • Other CMS tools
  • Any experience with scripting or programming
  • Basic understanding of translation industry standards (XLIFF, TBX, TMX)
  • AI Voiceover tools
  • Workflow automation tools like Blackbird or Zapier
