With 30 years of internationally recognized expertise on climate policy and a fierce commitment to exploring all potential solutions, CATF is a pragmatic, non-ideological advocacy group with the bold ideas needed to address climate change. CATF has offices in Boston, Washington D.C., and Brussels, with staff working virtually around the world.

What You’ll Do

The Senior Director, European Advocacy will set the strategic direction for CATF’s work across Europe leading regional growth and impact, overseeing the EU and Central and Eastern Europe advocacy teams, and shaping future opportunities for expansion across the region. This is a fully remote role that can be based anywhere in Europe, offering the opportunity to lead a geographically distributed team and influence climate policy across the continent.

  • Enterprise Governance – Serve on our senior leadership team to align priorities, resources, and investments across the organization.
  • People Leadership & Team Development – Develop and empower a high-performing, geographically distributed team of 7 policy experts and consultants.
  • Fundraising & Partnership Development – Lead regional fundraising in partnership with the Development team, accountable for revenue growth, donor engagement and sustainable funding for European work.
  • Policy & Advocacy Leadership – Guide regional advocacy efforts that advance practical climate solutions across Europe’s complex political, economic, and energy landscape.
  • Thought Leadership & Communications Oversight – Elevate CATF’s external voice and manage risk by ensuring high-quality, consistent messaging—serving as the final reviewer for external-facing materials such as reports, policy briefs, white papers, and press releases.
      • External Engagement & Influence – Represent CATF with European institutions, national governments, funders, industry leaders, media, and other high-level stakeholders.
      • Operational & Resource Management – Steward regional resources, including team planning, budgets, consultant support, and priority-setting across European initiatives.

      What You’ll Bring

You will succeed in this role if you are a strategic, collaborative leader who can bring structure to complexity, build trust across cultures and institutions, and turn ambitious climate goals into focused action. You should be comfortable leading through influence, making sound decisions in dynamic environments, and empowering others to do their best work.

      Desired experience

      • Significant senior leadership experience, including at least 10 years of progressive experience in management, strategy, policy, advocacy, or a related field.
      • Deep understanding of European energy and climate policy, political dynamics, and private sector engagement, or closely related experience in a similar sector.
      • Experience working across European Union institutions, Member States, including Central and Eastern Europe, UK or other European policy environments.
      • Proven ability to shape and lead regional or multinational strategies in complex policy, nonprofit, advocacy, or technical environments.
      • Strong track record of engaging senior stakeholders, including government officials, industry leaders, funders, and multilateral organizations.
      • At least 6 years of experience directly leading, coaching, and developing high-performing teams across cultures, locations, or disciplines.
      • Experience managing significant budgets, resources, priorities, and organizational tradeoffs in a mission-driven environment.
      • Fluency in English and the ability to communicate clearly with internal and external audiences at senior levels.
      • A leadership style grounded in curiosity, collaboration, persistence, integrity, and commitment to measurable climate impact.
