What to Expect?  

 

Pool Corporation is seeking a Senior IBM i Administrator to own the stability, performance, and security of our IBM i (AS/400 / iSeries) environment. This role is critical to the reliability of our core business systems and requires deep hands-on expertise across IBM i operating system administration, performance management, security, disaster recovery, and integration. The Senior Administrator will serve as the subject-matter expert, and will collaborate cross-functionally with application, database, and infrastructure teams. 

 

On a daily basis our JOB TITLE: 

 

System Administration & Operations 

  • Manage and administer IBM i OS (V7R3 and above) including PTF strategy, licensing, and system upgrades. 

  • Monitor system performance, capacity, and availability; proactively identify and resolve bottlenecks. 

  • Configure and maintain IBM i logical partitions (LPARs), storage pools, and memory management. 

  • Administer job scheduling (e.g., IBM Job Scheduler, Robot/Schedule, or equivalent) and batch processing workflows. 

  • Manage IFS (Integrated File System), library management, and object-level security. 

Security & Compliance 

  • Implement and enforce IBM i security policies, user profiles, authority levels, and auditing (QAUDJRN). 

  • Lead periodic security assessments and remediation in alignment with SOX, PCI-DSS, and internal compliance standards. 

  • Manage exit points and network security using tools such as Powertech or IBM i Access Client Solutions. 

Backup, Recovery & High Availability 

  • Design and maintain backup and recovery strategies using BRMS or equivalent solutions. 

  • Administer high-availability and disaster recovery configurations (e.g., MIMIX, iTERA, or native IBM i HA). 

  • Lead DR testing exercises and document RTO/RPO outcomes. 

Integration & Connectivity 

  • Manage TCP/IP configuration, FTP, SFTP, and IBM i Access connections. 

  • Support EDI, MQ, and web services integrations with IBM i back-end systems. 

  • Collaborate with application teams on RPGLE, CL, and SQL optimization within the IBM i environment. 

  • Document operational procedures, runbooks, and architecture diagrams. 

  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

What You Will Need: 

  • 4+ years of hands-on IBM i (AS/400 / iSeries) system administration experience. 

  • Strong expertise in IBM i OS security, PTF management, and object-level administration. 

  • Solid understanding of TCP/IP networking, FTP/SFTP, and IBM i connectivity. 

  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as SOX or PCI-DSS in an IBM i context. 

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to perform root cause analysis under pressure. 

 

Skills Preferred: 

  • IBM Certified Systems Expert – IBM i designation or equivalent. 

  • Experience in a distribution, retail, or manufacturing ERP environment (JD Edwards, SAP, or similar). 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
