Job description

ABOUT US

At Vida, we help people get better- and we're helping the healthcare system get better, too.

Vida is a virtual, personalized obesity care provider that uses evidence-based treatment to help patients manage obesity and related conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, anxiety and depression. Vida's team of Obesity Medicine-Certified Physicians, Registered Dietitians, Expert Coaches and Licensed Therapists takes a whole-person approach to care, helping people lose weight, reduce stress and improve their overall health.

By combining advanced technology with top-notch healthcare providers, Vida is breaking down the barriers that have historically kept people from getting the best care. It's trusted by Fortune 100 companies, major national payers and large providers to enable their employees to live their healthiest lives.

Vida Health is seeking a Senior Full Stack Engineer to help shape the technical direction of our Provider Team. In this role, you will design, build, and maintain the backend services and user-facing applications that power our clinician and provider workflows β€” making a direct impact on how care is delivered at scale.

This is more than an execution role. You will partner closely with Product, Design, Operations, and Engineering to drive initiatives from early ambiguity through to production, bringing both technical depth and cross-functional leadership to everything you do. Your work will span Python, Django, REST APIs, and React or React Native, with a focus on building provider tools that are reliable, scalable, and built to support the clinicians who depend on them every day.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the technical discovery, scoping, and execution of complex features, collaborating seamlessly with Product, Design, QA, and business stakeholders.
  • Own features end-to-end. Break down large initiatives into actionable engineering milestones and guide the team toward successful delivery.
  • Act as a strong, proactive communicator who can translate complex technical challenges into clear business outcomes for non-technical partners.
  • Champion high engineering standards through thorough code reviews, architectural discussions, and mentorship of mid-level and junior engineers.
  • Act with a high degree of autonomy on the frontend. You can take loose product requirements and rapidly iterate on user interfaces without needing exhaustive, pixel-perfect specs from a design team for every change.
  • Build and maintain high-performance frontend applications using React, TypeScript, and React Query.
  • Support and contribute to our React Native mobile applications.
  • Apply strong product intuition and UX sensibilities to build clean, logical, and user-friendly flows using component libraries like Tailwind or MUI.
  • Design, build, and optimize robust REST APIs using Django REST Framework (DRF).
  • Develop and evolve clean database models, schemas, and complex migrations.
  • Leverage LLMs and AI tooling, specifically Claude and Claude Code, to accelerate development workflows and build innovative, automated features.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and scale production services deployed via Kubernetes on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) using Datadog and logging best practices.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

  • Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree at a minimum.
  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with a proven track record of leading technical projects and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Strong product and design intuition. You are comfortable building and refining interfaces independently, leveraging component frameworks to deliver great user experiences quickly without a design crutch.
  • Deep expertise in Python, Django models, and Django REST Framework (DRF) for building production-grade REST APIs.
  • Robust experience with modern React, state management via React Query, and TypeScript.
  • Strong experience writing optimized queries, designing schemas, and managing database migrations.
  • Experience utilizing AI assistance, specifically Claude and Claude Code, to write, test, refactor, and optimize code efficiently.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build consensus across different teams.

  • Preferred:
  • Experience navigating healthcare technology, HIPAA compliance, or digital health platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with React Native.
  • Familiarity with containerized environments using Docker and Kubernetes, and cloud infrastructure like GCP or AWS.
  • Experience with event-driven architectures, Celery, or message brokers like Pub/Sub or RabbitMQ.
  • Vida is proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action employer.
