Position Overview:

Reporting to the VP, Engineering, the Director, Engineering provides oversight, support, leadership and guidance to junior engineers in support of design, performance and maintenance activities of national renewable energy projects conceived, constructed, and acquired, to a rapidly growing company with national operations. The ability to work independently and as a team member are critical, as well as the desire and innovative mind set to operate as an important contributor within a fast-pace, early-stage company environment. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily leadership to junior engineers
  • Work closely to prioritize key activities on 100+ projects in various stages from business development through close and acquisition activity
  • Ensure on-time project documentation delivery and excellent status communication to internal parties and customers
  • Manage employee issues; performance reviews, recruiting, mentoring and growth
  • Oversee the creation, accuracy, and refinement of all deliverables, systems, tools and processes
  • Includes all areas from Business Development through Design and Engineering through all phases of Construction and ongoing operations including Technical Services and O&M.
  • Create, maintain and distribute reports and dashboards reflecting workloads, exceptions, cycle times, resource planning and system performance. 
  • Maintain existing database of designs and processes; create enhancements as business needs dictate
  • Track accuracy and quality from initial concept through all construction phases and as-built drawings
  • Closely manage all new technological and product advancements, reviewing with Department heads
  • Work with other departments to provide consistency and clarity around specific offerings
  • Monitor and track performance metrics of built and acquired systems
  • Specify necessary equipment/software for the most accurate delivery of key metrics
  • Drive development in the areas of predictive modeling, AI, cloud computing, working with Aspen’s AI team.
  • Key decision maker on trade partners, supply deals, strategic alliances
  • Work with Procurement department head on cost / benefit analysis and Key Performance Metrics
  • Oversee performance monitoring platform, tracking systems and processes
  • Drive process improvement by coordinating feedback loop of performance into design engineering
  • Oversee the overall quality of system energy performance and track by location, project specifics
  • Work with head of Asset Management to establish, measure and improve cycle times and overall quality
  • Work with department heads and senior management to develop growth and risk mitigation strategies
  • Create, manage and track Technical improvement measures and Key Performance Indicators
  • Establish monthly and quarterly deliverable updates for review with senior management
  • Provide constructive feedback to senior management as well as other department heads
  • Prioritize Engineering department initiatives to ensure internal/external stakeholders needs are met

 

Qualifications:

Must be passionate about the renewable energy business, hardworking and thrive in the fast pace of a rapidly growing, early stage company. In addition, must possess:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, with relevant  Professional Certifications desired
  • 8 years of progressive engineering leadership experience
  • Experience within a leading renewable energy firm
  • Strong history of technical management and control, continuous innovation 
  • Demonstrated ability to directly manage and oversee numerous projects and worksrteams simultaneously
  • Direct management of multiple departments/functional areas
  • Strong organizational and scheduling skills to manage the activities of internal and external resources
  • Technical and Construction Code Authority and responsibility
  • Expert knowledge of managing AHJ relationships, negotiating with contractors, conflict management and risk mitigation
  • Exhibited success with process development and implementation, change management and growth
  • Demonstrated history of management system implementation and utilization
  • Ability to interface smoothly at senior management levels internally and externally

Location: NY or Remote

At Aspen Power, our work model includes three ways of working: remote, in-person, and hybrid (a hybrid of in-person and remote). 

Compensation Range:

The salary range for this position is: $150K-$170K, plus individuals may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. Actual compensation within the range will be dependent upon the individual's skills, experience, qualifications and location, and applicable employment laws.  

Note that title and salary will be commensurate with candidate experience.
