  • Manage backup and recovery strategies, including failover groups, geo-replication, point-in-time restore, and long-term retention policies

We are seeking an Azure Cloud Infrastructure Engineer with strong experience in Azure SQL database administration and cloud systems engineering. This role supports the deployment of client environments while ensuring that managed database platforms are secure, reliable, and optimized for performance.   

What You’ll Do
  • Deploy or migrate client environments following the Cloud Adoption Framework, the Well-Architected Framework, and Atmosera’s internal implementation standards   

  • Perform systems engineering across networking platforms, Azure IaaS and PaaS, Windows and Linux servers, hypervisors, storage, and SaaS solutions  

  • Administer Azure SQL Database environments including provisioning, scaling, configuration, patching, and lifecycle management  

  • Manage backup and recovery strategies, including failover groups, geo-replication, point-in-time restore, and long-term retention policies  

  • Perform query and index optimization, manage workloads using Query Store, and implement performance tuning recommendations  

  • Secure Azure SQL environments using RBAC, Private Link, Azure Key Vault, and firewall configurations  

  • Integrate DevOps principles using ARM templates and Bicep for infrastructure and database automation  

  • Create and maintain documentation including runbooks, operating procedures, and governance models  

  • Collaborate with internal departments to improve delivery processes and ensure customer success  

  • Adhere to compliance requirements including but not limited to PCI-DSS, HIPAA/HITECH, IRS 1075, SOC 1 & SOC 2 Type II, and FedRAMP Medium  


The Skills You’ll Need
  • Experience designing, implementing, and managing Azure cloud infrastructure and databases and infrastructure  

  • Proficiency in Azure SQL Database administration, including performance diagnostics, resource management, and SLA optimization  

  • Familiarity with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights for database health and telemetry  

  • Knowledge of indexing strategies, execution plans, and intelligent tuning features  

  • Experience with networking, storage, backups, orchestration, and configuration management  

  • Strong analytical and documentation skills with a focus on troubleshooting and continuous improvement  

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with cross-functional teams and clients  

  • Self-driven with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment  

  • Awareness of automation, efficiency improvements, and DevOps best practices  

  • A firm grasp of Systems thinking and Engineering principles


Qualifications

  • Technical certifications in Azure, SQL, Windows, Office 365, Linux, VMware, Cisco, Palo Alto, Bicep, or DevOps are a plus 

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or equivalent certification strongly preferred  

    • Microsoft Azure certifications are required within 90 days of employment based on current certifications and skill level 

    • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent job experience 

    This is a contractor position in the United States with the ability to work from home but may require travel to a client site.
