Salary/Wage range: $33.92 to $41.70 per hour
Shift structure: Monday to Friday, 7.25 hours per day

Primary location: Hybrid/Multi-site, CASA (West)

About the Role


FASTRACS provides caregivers with an increased understanding of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), practical skills and individualized strategies needed to support their child’s development, strengthen daily routines, increase stability, and improve overall family well-being. The program provides short-term relationship-based education emphasizing positive caregiver and child interaction as well as supports the concurrent mental health needs of the child/adolescent. Caregivers receive support in navigating health, mental health, school, and community systems and are connected to relevant resources and services.

The FASD Support Navigator will:
  • Coordinate referrals and complete intake with clients.
  • Participate in the case management of assigned caseload.
  • Work collaboratively with Occupational Therapists and other service providers supporting clients to support continuity of care.
  • Provide hands on modelling and coaching to family members as determined by the Occupational Therapist.
  • Conduct phone calls (i.e. to schools, caregivers) to gather information or explain strategies to assist the client’s child to be successful in school and at home.
  • Assist clients with referral and service navigation to access community resources.
  • Assist in group facilitation, coordinating registration, set up and take down, observation and note taking as required in groups for clients and their families.
  • Facilitate professional development for school staff and service providers supporting children and/or adolescents suspected or diagnosed or with FASD.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
 
  • Knowledge of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder.
  • Strong knowledge and skills in behavior management techniques.
  • Excellent case management skills.
  • Strong critical thinking skills.
  • Strong grasp of the principles of evidence-based practice.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience working with children, adolescents, adults and families.
  • Experience in public speaking and/or group facilitation.
  • Ability to work independently and appropriately prioritize responsibilities.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or psychology.
  • Practical experience in child or adolescent mental health treatment setting.

Conditions of Employment
  • A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Intervention Check. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
  • Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA) as well as physical ability to perform all interventions.
  • This is a hybrid position; applicants must have access to a confidential workspace when working remotely.
  • Regular travel to and from various communities is required. Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
