Job description

Entity:

Gas & Low Carbon Energy

Job Family Group:

Subsurface Group

Job Description:

Let me tell you about the role

bp has been selected by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) to act as the Technical Services Provider (TSP) for the Mumbai High Field, India’s largest and most prolific offshore oil field that lies approximately 160-kilometers into the Arabian Sea off the Mumbai coast. The Mumbai High oil field was discovered in February 1974 and started production on May 21, 1976. It accounts for almost 25% of India's production.

As the TSP, bp will conduct a comprehensive review of the field’s performance and identify improvements as well as implement suitable technological interventions and practices for improving production and recovery from this important national resource. bp will serve in an advisory role to ONGC identifying recovery technologies and practices with the aim of stabilizing production and reversing decline, returning production from this nationally important oilfield to a strong growth path.

The successful candidate will report into a bp appointed leader within TSP, and selection into the role will be carried out by the relevant discipline/function leads. Please note that the job title and level of this posting is aligned with ONGC requirements. For any queries please reach out to the Talent Acquisition tag who will be able to redirect your query to the correct discipline lead.

This is an opportunity for a motivated individual to join the agile, fast-paced and exciting integrated team that Advises ONGC on opportunities for Production Management, Depletion Management, and Area Development Planning to improve production and recovery from this field.

As a Geologist in the Mumbai High TSP team, you will play a central technical role in interpreting, integrating, and communicating geological insights that drive reservoir management decisions across the partnership. You will work closely with ONGC counterparts, bp subsurface specialists, and multidisciplinary teams across India and global bp hubs.

This is a handson technical role suited to someone who brings strong geological fundamentals, thrives in collaborative environments, and enjoys shaping subsurface solutions for complex mature fields.

What you will deliver

  • As an individual technical contributor, working closely with other subsurface disciplines and other business units such as the Wells organisation, you will deliver high-quality geological inputs to progress prioritised business opportunities.

  • You will interpret and integrate core, well-log, seismic, analogue, and dynamic data (pressure, production etc.) to develop and refine the integrated structural, stratigraphic, depositional, rock property and fluid frameworks which underpin integrated subsurface products.

  • Your technical and business skills will enable you to develop appropriate subsurface scenarios, to characterise and communicate subsurface uncertainties and use this knowledge to plan and deliver ‘fit for purpose’ technical products.

  • You will support the base management and reservoir management opportunities to maximise economic recovery from existing infrastructure.

  • Engage proactively with bp specialists, ONGC experts, and cross disciplinary team members (RE, PT, geophysics, data, wells) to drive integrated subsurface solutions.disciplinary team members (RE, PT, geophysics, data, wells) to drive integrated subsurface solutions.

  • Support adoption of new technologies, digital workflows, and data-driven tools (e.g., RAPID-style workflows) that improve efficiency and reliability of subsurface interpretation.

  • Your ability to clearly communicate subsurface uncertainty to colleagues and business leaders will enable the development of appropriate risk management and mitigation plans.

  • As a geologist in bp’s geological and subsurface communities you will coach, share best practice and seek to innovate to solve technical and business problems.
