Job description

Your role at St John of God Health Care

Supported by the Commercial Analytics Lead, the Data Scientist will play a pivotal role in driving the financial and operational performance of our hospital system. You will be a key analytics partner for the Health Funds Team, translating complex healthcare data into actionable commercial insights.

In this role, you will develop and implement analytics solutions to uncover funding patterns, analyze contract performance, and identify revenue optimization opportunities. You will also champion a human-centered design approach to build intuitive Business Intelligence (BI) and self-service tools (such as Power BI), ensuring our caregivers and executives can easily access the data they need to make strategic decisions.

The Position

  • Serve as the primary analytics point of contact for the health funds team, case mix data, and clinical costing processes.

  • Analyse funding models, health fund contracts, and revenue streams to identify variances, trends, and opportunities for optimisation.

  • Apply statistical analysis to large, multi-dimensional healthcare datasets to evaluate the commercial impact of operational and clinical practices.

  • Provide robust analytical support and data-driven modeling to inform strategic health fund contract negotiations and initiatives.

  • Design, build, and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards that communicate complex commercial and clinical insights in an accessible, self-service manner.

  • Partner with data engineering and IM teams to build structured datasets, ensure high data quality, and successfully deploy analytical solutions into production.

  • Collaborate on predictive and prescriptive analytics use cases, which may include the exploration and application of machine learning algorithms to improve operational forecasting.

We are looking for a highly capable analyst who brings demonstrated expertise in health data analysis, including experience in revenue modelling, benchmarking, and a strong understanding of health sector dynamics. You will have in-depth knowledge of funding frameworks such as DRGs, private health insurance mechanics and clinical costing processes, along with proven experience partnering with business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into practical, actionable solutions.

Successful applicants will hold a tertiary qualification in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics or other quantitative discipline. Additionally, you will possess strong technical capability in data manipulation and analysis, with highly regarded SQL skills and experience with tools such as Power BI and advanced Excel (Python experience will be considered an advantage).

Above all, people will be at the core of everything you do committing to and supporting our Mission and Values.
