Job description

What is the Role:
DTEX is seeking a highly skilled and mission-driven Threat Intel Research Engineer to join our Intelligence team. This role is pivotal in advancing our cybersecurity detection capabilities, building new applications and algorithms, and ensuring the quality and reliability of our intelligence content and infrastructure. You will work at the intersection of behavioral analytics, threat detection, and product innovation—helping to shape the future of insider risk and workforce cyber intelligence.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Detection & Content Development:
    Design and implement behavioral detections and analytic content using DTEX’s proprietary telemetry and data models.
  • Application & Product Engineering:
    Build and maintain full-stack applications and internal tools that support intelligence workflows, detection pipelines, and customer-facing features.
  • Algorithm Design:
    Develop and optimize algorithms for behavioral modeling, anomaly detection, and risk scoring using structured and unstructured data.
  • Quality Engineering Ownership:
    Lead QE efforts for the Intelligence team, including test automation, regression validation, and release readiness for detection content and supporting tools.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration:
    Partner with data scientists, detection engineers, product managers, and customer success teams to translate intelligence needs into scalable solutions.
  • Innovation & Research:
    Stay current with emerging threats, detection methodologies, and full-stack technologies to continuously improve DTEX’s detection and response capabilities.

Required Qualifications
  • In depth system level knowledge of Windows, Mac, & Linux.
  • 3-5+ years of experience in full-stack development (Python, Django/Flask, React/TypeScript preferred).
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, detection engineering, and behavioral analytics.
  • Experience with data pipelines, RESTful APIs, and cloud-native architectures (AWS preferred).
  • Familiarity with QE practices, test automation frameworks, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and a passion for solving complex security problems.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Elasticsearch, Spark, or similar data platforms.
  • Background in threat intelligence, insider risk, or UEBA.
  • Exposure to ML/AI techniques for detection and classification.
  • Contributions to open-source security or analytics projects.

Base salary range (SF Bay Area): $140k-$180k.
