Job description

Position Title: Policy Associate, Fusion Policy

Reports to: Global Director, Fusion Energy
Location: Remote, flexible, must be able to work East Coast hours
Type: Full-time, one year, with the possibility of a one-year extension

ABOUT CATF:

Clean Air Task Force (CATF) is a nonprofit organization working to safeguard against the worst impacts of climate change by catalyzing the rapid global development and deployment of low-carbon energy and other climate-protecting technologies. This is accomplished through research and analysis, public advocacy leadership, and partnership with the private sector. CATF is highly respected for its deep expertise and research on energy and industrial systems and potential strategies, technologies, and policies that can radically shrink their impact on the planet’s atmosphere. Our team of experts and advocates along with a global network of subject matter experts and partners put this research into action by designing and advancing policies that drive toward zero emissions.

ROLE:

The Policy Associate, Fusion Policy, will support CATF’s work to advance fusion energy policy primarily across U.S. federal, U.S. state, and European contexts. This role focuses on contributing to research, policy development, and advocacy execution while working closely with senior staff and cross-functional teams.

The Associate will help translate CATF’s fusion policy thought leadership into actionable advocacy, including engagement with policymakers and coordination with CATF’s U.S. and European advocacy teams. While primarily a support and execution role, the position offers opportunities to take the lead on select external-facing work, such as developing policy outputs and representing CATF in meetings or forums.

Key Functions and Responsibilities

Research and Analysis

  • Support development of fusion policy positions, reports, and roadmaps across U.S. federal, state, and European contexts
  • Conduct research on policy frameworks, commercialization pathways, and public funding mechanisms
  • Translate technical and programmatic insights into clear, policy-relevant analysis

Advocacy and Policy Engagement

  • Support engagement with federal, state, and European policymakers, including relevant government agencies and stakeholders
  • Contribute to advocacy efforts advancing key priorities such as appropriations, tax incentives, and regulatory frameworks for fusion energy
  • Prepare materials for external meetings, briefings, and stakeholder engagement
  • Represent CATF in external meetings or forums, as appropriate

Cross-Regional Coordination

  • Support coordination across CATF’s U.S. Federal, U.S. State, and European advocacy teams to align priorities and execution
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including legal and program staff, to integrate policy and regulatory considerations
  • Contribute to alignment across Fusion Program priorities and workstreams

Strategy Development

  • Contribute to the development and execution of fusion policy advocacy strategies
  • Track policy developments and identify emerging opportunities
  • Support rapid-response analysis for evolving policy discussions

Communications and External Engagement

  • Draft policy briefs, reports, blog posts, and other written outputs
  • Support stakeholder engagement and relationship management
  • Contribute to external communications and thought leadership

Operational Support

  • Provide day-to-day coordination support across fusion policy activities
  • Assist with planning for events, convenings, and stakeholder engagement
  • Support broader Fusion Program priorities related to policy work
  • Support the Global director of the Fusion Program in aspects related to the policy work

COMPENSATION AND LOCATION

This is a full-time, remote position, with location flexible. CATF offers an excellent benefits package and an annual salary range of $85,000 – $106,000, dependent on skills and experience.
