Job Description:

Job Purpose

The Expert Technologist Technology Deployment provides technical expertise to the Japan markets, help plan their future technology requirements, deploy new technology, support product launches, support existing technology and generation of new business. They are part of an agile team of technologists working across the region in support of market activities. This will require the role to support other market activities as required.

Key Accountabilities

  • Source relevant and up to date information on current and future products, applications, specifications and related technologies to develop and prioritise the technology roadmap, opportunities and technical activities for the Japan ensuring these are fed back to Product Development and into the OD&I planning process.

  • Operate as a subject matter expert with other experts and technologists to; deliver proof of performance testing, deploy products, train the trainer for product launches, support existing technology, customers and new business. Support the overall maintenance of the portfolio.

  • Provide expert advice in: customer technical support including product recommendation; resolution of application / performance problems; counterfeits; managing quality incidents; product waivers; material substitution; specifications; applications; quality assessments, root cause investigations.

  • Advise and check the technical accuracy, integrity and approval of external communications, materials used at media events, customer events, product introduction, data sheets and labels.

  • Provide input to the development of technical training materials, deliver technical training to the country markets, coach and mentor less experienced technologists, and share technical knowledge to develop people’s capabilities.

  • Present technical material at customer events and at external technical seminars/conferences, drive technical advocacy.

  • Support the interact with local OEMs maintaining information flow between them and Castrol and represent Castrol at trade associations/Industry bodies ensuring Castrol’s global interests are addressed and that information is fed back into relevant teams within the Castrol organisation.

  • Champion and report on the performance relating to the protection of Intellectual Property, Product Quality and Product Compliance risk with the country leadership team as appropriate. Drive commitment to closure of assessment gaps and realization of improvement opportunities through the monitoring KPIs and leading/lagging indicators.

Job Holder Requirements

University degree in scientific field such as Chemistry or Chemical Engineering or a related technical discipline.

Desirable criteria & qualifications

  • Proven broad experience of lubricant development, quality assurance and technology commercialisation and deployment (mastery)

  • > 10 years experience in a technical role, advanced technical knowledge and quality assurance of own discipline/accountabilities

  • Strong technical presentation and communication skills

  • Strong commercial skills and business credibility

  • Proficient at networking, motivating and leading across different functions

  • BPs values, behaviours and leadership expectations

  • Experience in digitialisation of data and reporting.
