Job description

At Gratia, we believe potential is globally distributed, but opportunity is not. Our mission is to turn great talent's potential into fulfilling global careers through professional development and tech-enabled platforms. We bridge the gap between ambitious companies and hands-on experts who deliver real results instead of just theoretical plans.

Gratia is a remote-first, apprenticeship-based platform where opportunity is defined by what you can do and deliver. Our clients include global names like USA Today Co., Endeavor, and New York Life. We maintain an 88.2 Net Promoter Score because we focus on rigorous execution, not just high-level advice.

Why join Gratia's network?

  • High-impact projects: Work directly with companies like Apollo and Endeavor, solving real operational challenges—not theoretical exercises.

  • Flexibility & autonomy: Choose projects that match your expertise and availability. Work remotely, set your own rhythm, and grow your portfolio across industries.

  • Apprenticeship & growth: A curated pathway combining high-value projects with mentorship. Move from "doing" to "leading" through real work.

  • Community of top talent: Join a network of experienced specialists who collaborate across disciplines on complex engagements.

What you’ll be doing

We are seeking a deal-oriented Investment Associate to serve as a critical engine for our transaction execution and deal flow management. This role sits at the intersection of high-level financial engineering and tactical deal progression. You will be responsible for building the analytical foundations for new investments while actively managing the diligence process across M&A, private equity, and private credit opportunities.

  • Transaction execution & diligence: Help progress active deal flow by managing timelines, coordinating with external advisors (legal, tax, accounting), and overseeing Virtual Data Rooms (VDR). Review Quality of Earnings (QofE) reports and commercial due diligence to identify potential "deal-breakers" or valuation adjustments.

  • Advanced financial modelling: Build and scale driver-based 3-statement models (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) and multi-year projections from scratch.

  • Scenario & Risk Testing: Design frameworks and sensitivity analyses to quantify downside risk and upside potential.

  • Valuation analysis: Perform rigorous valuations using DCF frameworks, comparable company analysis, and precedent transactions.

  • Data synthesis: Transform messy, raw operational data from target companies into structured, logical insights to support market entry or fundraising.

What we’re looking for

  • 3–5 years of professional experience in financial modeling and transaction execution, typically gained within investment banking, private equity, private credit, or corporate development.

  • Expert-level proficiency in Excel (3-statement integration, DCF, data tables, and advanced simulations). You should be comfortable with "production-ready" models that require minimal oversight.

  • A foundational understanding of transaction legal docs, closing mechanics, and the nuances of different asset classes (Equity vs. Debt).

  • Ability to look beyond the numbers to understand the "story" of a business and identify operational risks.

  • Exceptional ability to document assumptions clearly and explain complex model logic to non-technical stakeholders.

Why Gratia is your next step

  • This is a long-term contract/freelance role designed for independent professionals who want the freedom of private practice without the isolation of working alone.

  • We offer both part-time and full-time engagement options.

  • Compensation is tailored to your expertise.

  • Elevate your profile by working directly with leaders at innovative global organizations like Gannett and Portrait Analytics.
