We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Lead to join our Client Solutions team within Strategy and Growth. This role provides strategic leadership and governance of EML’s research and white paper program of work, ensuring our thought leadership agenda is commercially aligned, evidence-based and delivers meaningful value.

Reporting to the National Manager, Client Solutions, you will oversee the end-to-end research program, from setting strategic direction and priorities through to delivery, governance and benefits realisation. You will work closely with business units, actuaries, researchers, subject matter experts, universities and specialist partners to deliver high-quality research outputs that support EML’s growth, reputation and market positioning.

This role can either be part time or full time and is a 12-month secondment position. Hybrid working is supported, and occasional interstate travel may be required.

Your responsibilities

  • Lead and manage EML’s research and white paper strategy, ensuring alignment to growth and enterprise priorities
  • Establish and oversee the annual research and white paper program, including topic selection, sequencing, delivery timelines and quality standards
  • Act as the central point of coordination across business units, actuaries, researchers, subject matter experts, universities and specialist partners
  • Undertake the program management, including budget management, cost control, governance and return on investment
  • Develop business cases, funding proposals and investment recommendations for research initiatives
  • Ensure strong governance, risk management, reporting and benefits realisation across the program
  • Oversee the end‑to‑end delivery of research outputs, ensuring rigour, clarity and consistency
  • Lead, coach and support research contributors, fostering collaboration and continuous improvement
  • Work closely with Strategy and Growth, Partnerships and Distribution and Marketing & Communications to translate research into compelling, market‑facing insights
  • Support the release to market and present findings across multiple channels including conferences, employer sessions, masterclass’s, podcasts and virtual + in person events

About you

  • Proven experience leading research, thought leadership or evidence‑based programs within complex organisations
  • Strong experience working with diverse stakeholders, including technical experts, actuaries, academics and senior business leaders
  • Demonstrated experience in program governance, commercial management and budget oversight
  • Excellent analytical, written and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex insights for executive and industry audiences
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to balance academic rigour and commercial outcomes
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to influence and guide at senior levels
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high‑quality outcomes in a fast‑paced environment
  • Proven experience in public speaking and engaging with large audiences.
