The University of Southern California’s Information Technology Services organization supports the technology, systems, and services that help USC deliver on its academic, research, and administrative mission. ITS partners with students, faculty, staff, and university leaders to improve core operations, strengthen service delivery, and support a modern technology environment across the university.
Within ITS, the Workday Financials Support team supports key financial systems and business processes used across the university. This includes work connected to procure-to-pay, assets, financial accounting, and related Workday financial transactions. The team partners closely with internal ITS colleagues and university stakeholders, including groups such as the Comptroller’s Office, Business Services, and other teams involved in financial transactions and business operations.

Position Summary
USC’s Information Technology Services team is seeking a Business Analyst to support Workday Financials and related ERP financial business processes. This role will contribute to a mix of production support, enhancements, project work, requirements gathering, analysis, documentation, testing, and stakeholder support.
In this role, the Business Analyst will work closely with business partners, stakeholders, technical teams, and other ITS colleagues to understand needs, document current and future-state processes, support user-centered solutions, and help translate business goals into clear, actionable requirements. The role requires someone who can ask thoughtful questions, analyze business and system impacts, document clearly, and work collaboratively in a high-volume support environment.
This position is ideal for someone with hands-on business analysis experience supporting financial systems, ERP platforms, or technology-enabled business processes. Workday Financials experience is preferred, but candidates with experience supporting other ERP financial systems may also bring valuable experience to the role.
Key Responsibilities
The Business Analyst will:
Develop requirements, conceptualize designs, and recommend business processes in support of core organizational functions for the university.
Collaborate with business partners and stakeholders, including students, faculty, and staff, to understand needs, pain points, challenges, and opportunities.
Conduct and facilitate requirements-gathering sessions and translate stakeholder input into clear functional documentation.
Support Human Centered Design processes and standard business analysis methodologies to define problems, opportunities, and solutions.
Build, design, and deliver solutions that meet customer needs and expectations.
Partner with technical teams to profile applications and services, identify interdependencies, and support complementary designs.
Develop project analysis documentation, including business requirements, scope matrices, use cases, future-state proposals, and user acceptance testing plans.
Support test strategies, release management activities, risk mitigation, and adoption of new or improved business processes.
Use analytics and customer feedback to help measure results, document success, identify opportunities, and support decision-making.
Maintain currency with emerging technologies, standards, business analysis practices, and process improvement methods.
Build strong working relationships across ITS and the broader university community.
Demonstrate ITS values through accountability, ethical decision-making, strong customer service, collaboration, and clear communication.
Minimum Qualifications
The candidate for the position of Business Analyst must meet the following qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree
Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education
2 years
Proven record of delivering end-to-end, user-centered products, considering stakeholder requirements, user research, market analysis, data, customer feedback, and technical constraints or opportunities.
Experience conducting or facilitating requirement-gathering interviews or sessions.
Experience utilizing analytics tools to measure results of user-centered products, documenting success, presenting opportunities, and supporting decision-making.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and applications, an understanding of Lean and Agile methodologies, and familiarity with computer programming concepts.
Experience developing test strategies and plans, using widely accepted test methodologies or frameworks and proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
Experience working with functional groups, utilizing time management and prioritization skills to make efficient, logical decisions in a rapidly-changing environment.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, with experience presenting technical topics in a business-oriented fashion to non-technical audiences.
Proven experience establishing strong working relationships with a wide range of team members and clients, utilizing clear and effective functional documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate for the position of Business Analyst may also bring:
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration
4 years of relevant experience
Experience in IT, business administration, higher education, or related fields.
Experience supporting Workday Financials or another ERP financial system, such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, or a similar platform.
Experience with full-lifecycle financial business processes, including procure-to-pay (P2P), source-to-pay (S2P), accounts payable, financial accounting transactions, asset management, or related ERP financial workflows.
Understanding of how ERP procurement systems integrate with financial accounting processes, including encumbrance accounting, commitments, obligations, year-end carry-forward processes, and general ledger transaction flow.
Familiarity with Financial Data Model, chart of accounts, or related financial structure concepts.
Experience supporting production support, issue resolution, enhancements, or project work in a financial systems environment.
Experience using Jira or a similar tool to document, track, and manage support issues, enhancements, requirements, or project tasks.
Experience creating business requirements, process maps, use cases, scope matrices, future-state documentation, UAT plans, or related project documentation.
Experience working in complex, cross-functional environments with business stakeholders, technical teams, product teams, or service delivery partners.
Familiarity with Human Centered Design, Lean, Agile, testing frameworks, release management, or change adoption practices.

Salary and Benefits
The annual base salary range for this position is $97,083.73 - $107,642.00.
