Day in the Life of a Grant Writing and Program Development Specialist

  • Developing a grant strategy for the organization that aligns with the organization’s mission and funding needs.

  • Strategic selection of grant opportunities that further the organization’s mission.

  • Lead the identification and development of rural healthcare transformation fund opportunities across numerous states, with emphasis on opportunities that expand access to addiction medicine, behavioral health, and related services for Crossroads.

  • Serve as a cross-functional resource operating seamlessly between the Grants and Government Affairs departments to align grant strategy with legislative, regulatory, and public funding priorities.

  • Partner with Government Affairs to monitor state and federal policy developments, rural health initiatives, appropriations, and transformation funding trends that may create new grant or public funding opportunities for Crossroads.

  • Translate multi-state funding intelligence into actionable grant strategies, concept papers, and proposal development plans in collaboration with operational, clinical, finance, and executive stakeholders.

  • Coordinate with Grants and Government Affairs leadership to prioritize opportunities, shape win strategies, and support submissions that reflect Crossroads’ strategic growth goals in rural and underserved markets.

  • Develop persuasive funding narratives that incorporate policy context, community need, operational readiness, and government affairs insight to strengthen Crossroads’ competitive position.

  • Convene and coordinate cross-departmental stakeholders to ensure proposed rural healthcare transformation initiatives are operationally feasible, financially sound, and responsive to state-specific requirements.

  • Work with Clinical Applications and Business Analytics to identify ways to track programmatic outcomes visualized through Microsoft PowerBI

  • Tracking the organization’s funding needs and strategy.

  • Providing grant program development support in a team environment.

  • Managing a comprehensive grant submission process, that includes the preparation and timely submission of grant applications that are accurate, compelling and polished.

  • Research grants and present grants that Crossroads is eligible for in all states in which CTC has Centers.

  • Handle all grant application submissions through HRSA EHB, eraCommons, grants.gov, and other grant submission sites.

  • Develop KPIs for grant funding opportunities that further the mission of the organization.

  • Monitors grant performance on KPIs, quality metrics, and billing and accounts receivable.

  • Assist with PIMS, NOMS, SPARS, and other grant reporting as needed.

  • Ensure grants are submitted according to deadlines and grant reporting is completed.

  • Oversees information exchange at least monthly between revenue cycle, CFO, and clinical operations managers regarding reimbursement trends and training opportunities.

  • Performs ongoing analysis of grant performance throughout the company.

  • Supports revenue cycle team in activities in invoicing and collecting on grants.

  • Ability to report grant opportunities in the market and their impact to Crossroads Treatment Centers.

  • Supports grant opportunity at a regional, state, and clinic level.

  • Directs the analysis and reporting of reimbursement information for all grant activities.

  • Directs and participates in cost analysis and rate studies.

  • Contributes to installation and maintenance of new reimbursement and other related procedures and controls for all systems used in professional billing/charging for grant activities.

  • Maintains all grant contracts and fee schedules in contract management application and billing software.

  • Reports all grant fee schedules changes and updates monthly.

  • The ability to build and maintain confidence and credibility with all external clients and employees.

  • The ability to maintain friendly, cordial relations with all clients and employees; maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that results in a positive work relationship with customers, colleagues, and managers.

  • Successfully manage a team of two or more teammates on the grant program development team.

  • Work closely with the Grant’s department manager to facilitate grant meetings and operations for active CTC grants.

  • Ability to comply with Crossroads Treatment Centers’ standards of operations.

  • Ability to adhere to the core values of Crossroads Treatment Centers.

Education and Experience requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree.

  • At least 5 years of third-party grant management duties.

  • Experience in negotiation.

  • Existing relationships with state and federal payment sources

  • Advanced understanding/knowledge of computer data entry, SharePoint, Microsoft Excel, and the ability to adapt and navigate business related software required.

Schedule

This role will be remote (eastern or central US based) but will be asked to travel to the corporate office quarterly (Greenville, SC).
