ABOUT AILA

The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) is the national association of immigration lawyers established to promote justice, advocate for fair and reasonable immigration law and policy, advance the quality of immigration and nationality law and practice, and enhance the professional development of its members.

  

AILA invites applications from law students for the role of Editorial Fellow with the AILA Law Journal.


We are seeking two highly motivated law students with a strong interest in immigration law, legal writing, and scholarly publication. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on editorial experience and contribute to the advancement of legal scholarship in the field of immigration law.


ABOUT THE AILA LAW JOURNAL

The AILA Law Journal is a peer-reviewed publication dedicated to thoughtful analysis and commentary on immigration law and policy. Published twice annually, the Journal features articles authored by immigration law practitioners, scholars, and thought leaders. Its mission is to foster robust discussion and enhance the practice and development of immigration law in the United States.


ABOUT THE ROLE

Are you a U.S. law student passionate about immigration law and legal scholarship? The American Immigration Lawyers Association is now accepting applications for Editorial Fellows for the AILA Law Journal! This is a volunteer, remote position ideal for rising 2Ls and 3Ls looking to gain hands-on editorial experience and contribute to the field of immigration law.


WHAT YOU'LL DO
-Collaborate with the Journal’s Editorial Board and AILA staff to review, edit, and cite-check submitted articles
-Communicate with authors and support the publication process

Requirements

-Current enrollment in an ABA-accredited law school (rising 2Ls or 3Ls preferred)

-Demonstrated interest in immigration law, policy, or related areas

-Strong attention to detail, particularly in legal citation

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Selected Editorial Fellows will:

-Collaborate with the AILA Law Journal Editorial Board and AILA staff to review and evaluate submitted articles.

-Have the opportunity to propose a student note for consideration by the AILA Law Journal.


ABOUT THIS VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

This is a volunteer position with flexible hours. Work will take place remotely, with occasional virtual meetings coordinated by the Editorial Board.


APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS & PROCESSS

To ensure a complete application, all candidates must submit the required materials through our application portal, which should include the following:

  1. Resume
  2. Statement of interest (no more than 500 words) explaining your background, interest in the AILA Law Journal, and what you hope to gain from the experience
  3. Writing sample (no more than 15 pages, may be an excerpt) demonstrating legal analysis and/or citation skills

As part of our interview process, candidates may be asked to participate in virtual interviews, which will require on-camera presence.
