Your tasks

Global Risk Assessment Services (GRAS) is an innovative service and information provider offering environmental and social knowledge for fully traceable and sustainable supply chains. Our activities and impact are expanding and our teams are growing exponentially since the last 2 years. This is why the GRAS team, specifically the GIS & Sustianability team of experts are looking forward to welcome you as Automation Student Assistant at GRAS headquarters in Cologne.  

The Automation Student Assistant – GIS & Sustainability has the objective to support the implementation of deforestation-free supply chains by developing streamlined workflows for data processing and analysis. If you are passionate about how data and technical advancements drive meaningful change in sustainability and would like to join our highly motivated and diverse teams to make a difference, we are looking forward to your application!


Main activities:  
  • You will support the web-application and dashboard development (UI/UX), maintenance and documentation
  • You will assist in building streamlined workflows for geospatial data processing, analysis, and effective geodatabase management
  • You will support the GeoAI and agentic AI research and implementation

Your profile

  • Enrolled student in (geo-)informatics, computer science, data science, mechanical engineering and/ or a study with a thematic focus on topics such as sustainability, environmental and climate protection
  • Availability as a student assistant between 16 - 20 hours a week by arrangement for at least one year 
  • Good knowledge in programming languages: python and R
  • Experience in geospatial analysis and geodata processing (experience in packages sf, terra, raster and more), experience in remote sensing data handling is an advantage 
  • Knowledge in Docker or other containerization tools
  • Knowledge in geospatial database management is a plus
  • Knowledge or strong interest in LLM agentic AI and GeoAI foundation models
  • Knowledge or strong interest in UI/UX design tools and CI/CD pipeline 
  • Pro-active working style and attention to detail 
  • Very goodknowledge of spoken and written English is essential 
  • Ability to work in an international team as well as independently
