Job description

Our client is seeking a highly motivated and resourceful Senior Structural Analysts Contractor. This is a dedicated position focused on analyzing the mechanical performance of various reactor enclosure components, reactor internal components, reactor vessels, and nuclear island components under high temperature environment as well neutron fluence.

Candidates must have extensive experience in structural analysis and finite element analysis (FEA). The position holder will report to the Structural and Stress Analysis Manager. The Senior Structural Analysts will work as part of a high functioning team of engineers and scientists focused on developing the design of next generation advanced nuclear reactors.

Tasks

  • Perform mechanical analyses of reactor structures, systems, and nuclear island components to verify that their performance remains within imposed limits as defined by applicable structural and pressure equipment codes and standards (ASME BPVC, ASCE, and AISC).
  • Work with interdisciplinary team of engineers to establish and optimize nuclear components design consistent with required functional and quality requirements.
  • Establish and maintain documents of analysis results and design solutions.
  • Perform peer review to maintain the expected quality standard as per the engineering quality assurance plan.
  • Assist the team Manager and Senior Manager when necessary.
  • Mentor the engineers and team members as necessary to build a skilled and confident team.
  • Work as a technical point of contact for various focus tasks.

Key Qualifications and Skills

  • S, M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from accredited university. Aerospace, Nuclear, and Civil Engineering degrees are also considered.
  • Minimum of 8+ years of related experience with a B.S. degree, or 5+ years with an M.S. degree, or 3+ years with Ph.D. degree.
  • Proficient in finite element stress analysis, mechanical analysis methods and commercial mechanical stress analysis and modeling tools with emphasis on ANSYS and SolidWorks.
  • Strong understanding of solid mechanics, fracture mechanics, and fatigue failure.
  • Working experience with pressure equipment design codes and standards such as ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III, Div. 1 and 5, Section VIII Div. 2, Process Piping analysis code B31.1 and B31.3 is highly desirable.
  • Candidates should have demonstrated experience in mechanical analysis of equipment or components. This may include structural analysis, buckling analysis, thermal analysis, and/or creep fatigue / inelastic analysis.
  • Candidate should have demonstrated experience in seismic analysis of equipment or components; in particular, experience with response spectrum and time history modeling techniques in accordance with the requirements of ASCE 4, and/or ASCE 43 is highly desirable.
  • Experience or familiarity working under stringent quality assurance requirements such as ASME NQA-1, MIL-Q-9858A, or ISO-9000.
  • Familiarity with structural design codes and standards such as AISC N690, AISC 360, AWS D1.1, and AWS D1.6 is desirable.
  • Experienced with conceptual design and sizing for equipment and structural components through basic calculation and utilizing Mathcad.
  • Strong communication skills and collaborative teamwork is highly desired.
  • The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.

Ideal Candidate

  • Highly skilled performing finite element analysis of reactor components using Ansys workbench and/or APDL.
  • Experienced with implementing and interpretation of ASME Boiler Pressure Vessel Code Section III and/or Section VIII.
  • Thorough understanding of code and standards requirements related to the seismic design of equipment (i.e., ASCE 4, ASCE 43).
  • Working knowledge of computer code development and knowledgeable in programming tools such as Python.
  • Working experience utilizing Mathcad.
  • Previous experience in the nuclear industry.
