This is the job
At Artificial Intelligence and critical infrastructure intersection, we are looking for a Senior AI Engineer to help build next-generation vessel and intrusion detection systems using Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) and AIS data.
You’ll work on a highly innovative R&D initiative focused on protecting subsea communication infrastructure through advanced machine learning, computer vision, and signal processing techniques. The role combines deep learning, geospatial intelligence, and large-scale time-series analysis to validate real-world detection capabilities using acoustic cable data.
This is the team
You’ll join a senior-level engineering and research team working on applied AI solutions for real-world sensing systems. The team operates in an experimental R&D environment where rapid prototyping, scientific validation, and engineering pragmatism are equally important.
In this role, you’ll collaborate with AI engineers, signal processing specialists, and infrastructure experts to design and validate machine learning pipelines for DAS-based vessel detection and subsea infrastructure monitoring systems.
You’ll have the opportunity to:
Work with cutting-edge multimodal datasets combining acoustic sensing and geospatial tracking
Experiment with modern vision transformer architectures and deep learning pipelines
Build scalable AI systems on Google Cloud infrastructure
Influence technical direction in an early-stage, high-impact project
This is you
Strong experience training and fine-tuning deep learning models in PyTorch
Hands-on experience with computer vision and transformer-based architectures such as DINO / Vision Transformers
Experience building ML pipelines and experiment tracking using MLFlow and Vertex AI
Strong Python engineering skills and modern AI development workflows
Experience working with time-series or signal processing data
Comfortable operating in ambiguous R&D environments with evolving requirements
Nice-to-have skills:
Experience with DAS, seismic, sonar, or other sensor-based systems
Familiarity with PostgreSQL/PostGIS and geospatial indexing (H3)
Experience deploying ML systems on Google Cloud Platform
Understanding of acoustic signal analysis and spectral methods
Experience with multimodal data fusion (vision + sensor data)
This is your role
Research and validate machine learning approaches for DAS-based vessel detection
Train and adapt deep learning and computer vision models for acoustic signal interpretation
Build proof-of-concept AI systems integrating DAS and AIS datasets
Develop scalable ML workflows using Vertex AI and MLFlow
Analyze vessel signatures including engine, propeller, and vibration patterns
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver production-oriented R&D outcomes
Present findings, experiments, and validation results to technical stakeholders
