Requirements:

  • Lead a Centralized Commercial Credit Team supporting the Business Banking and Wholesale Banking groups, managing daily activities and workflow to meet customer needs.
  • Perform the duties of the Centralized Commercial Credit Officer III, evaluating financial statements and preparing independent credit evaluations for the most complex loans to drive approval or decline decisions.
  • Train and coach Credit Officers, ensuring underwriting analyses, decision-making consistency, policy compliance, and development in areas such as financial analysis, loan structure, risk rating, and cash flows.
  • Manage staffing, performance, and development of Centralized Commercial Credit Officers, including hiring, mentoring, performance reviews, goal setting, and achieving production and quality metrics.

Position Description

This position leads a team of Centralized Commercial Credit Officers responsible for loan approvals on business purpose and commercial real estate loans within line of business parameters.  In addition, the Centralized Commercial Credit Team Leader (CCCTL) will provide approval concurrence on exposures outside of the Credit Officer’s authority.  Loan authority is commensurate with experience, expertise and business need.

The CCTCL ensures that loans are underwritten to comply with policy and/or are appropriately mitigated. Work is varied in nature with changing priorities. Incumbent applies knowledge of commercial lending principles and technologies to work performed.  Works under limited supervision and in compliance with established policies, procedures and regulations.  The CCCTL supports revenue growth through identification and management of risk, and identification of alternative lending structures or terms.

Position Accountabilities

  • Responsible for leading a Centralized Commercial Credit Team that supports the Business Banking and Wholesale Banking groups within line of business parameters. Manages the daily activities of an assigned team, including monitoring workflow to ensure customer needs are met in a timely manner.
  • Performs all duties of the Centralized Commercial Credit Officer III position including the evaluation of financial statements and preparation of independent written credit evaluations on most complex business loans and relationships. Analyses will identify the key strengths and weaknesses of that particular borrower, and conclude in the approval or decline of the loan.  
  • Regularly reviews Credit Officer’s work product and provides necessary feedback.
  • Trains Credit Officers as needed and ensures consistency within the department on underwriting analyses and decision making.
  • Provides leadership of the assigned Team through coaching and training to ensure consistency, quality and compliance for all loan decisions. Training may include, but is not limited to, financial analysis, loan structure, risk rating, monitored lines of credit, statement spreading, CRE tenant evaluations, personal financial evaluations, and global cash flows.
  • Serves as a resource for individuals within the department and throughout the organization on AUB’s Commercial Lending Policy.
  • Manages assigned Centralized Commercial Credit Officer positions, including training, mentoring, coaching, and performance. Develops individual training plans to ensure continued teammate education and growth opportunities.  Holds direct reports accountable for meeting production goals and metrics, analytical quality, and professional development.  Responsible for performance reviews and establishing high performance departmental and personal goals, salary increase recommendations, counseling and discipline, and promotion recommendations. 
  • Participate in the development of forms and templates to be used in assessing and managing risk by both Credit and line of business teammates
  • Evaluates technology needs to ensure underwriting quality is met as organization grows, and makes recommendations for change when necessary.
  • Serves as liaison with vendors providing technology or subscription services utilized in the review and approval of credit.
  • Works with Manager to ensure that staffing levels and processes are aligned with the Bank’s strategic plan, production, profitability and credit quality goals. Responsible for hiring and retaining top talent within the Department.  Promotes a positive environment with high levels of teammate engagement.
  • Performs work on department or organization projects, and other duties, as requested

Position Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, or a business related field required
  • Seven or more years banking experience with emphasis in credit analysis or commercial banking required.
  • Prior management experience preferred.
  • Prior loan approval authority highly preferred.

  • Advanced computer skills to encompass knowledge of Microsoft Office software products (Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint)
  • Above average written and oral communication skills to encompass an ability to research, analyze, report conclusions, and present recommendations in a proficient and professional manner
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment
  • Good time management and organizational skills and an ability to adapt to change and manage multiple priorities
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Advanced knowledge of loan documentation, banking principals, procedures, and practices
