Job description

About the Role

As a Senior Backend Software Engineer on the DAO team, you will design, build, and maintain scalable systems that deliver a first-class experience for both Credit Union members and staff, ultimately driving growth in newly opened accounts.

You'll own problems end-to-end: from understanding business requirements and making architectural tradeoffs, to shipping reliable solutions with minimal oversight. This is a product that's still being shaped, you'll have real influence over how it evolves.

This role offers a unique opportunity to work closely with our Product and Design teams, as well as collaborate with external partners, giving you the chance to strengthen skills beyond engineering, such as communication, product thinking, and negotiation.

About the Team

Credit Unions (CUs) strive to offer their members loans with competitive interest rates. To make this possible, the greater the members’ investment in the CUs, the more favorable the rates become. That’s why Digital Account Opening (DAO) plays such a critical role at Clutch, it enables customers to seamlessly open new accounts (e.g., Savings, Checking) and start investing their money, strengthening the overall financial ecosystem.

The team has skilled full stack engineers who collaborate closely to tackle challenging problems. We foster a supportive and hands-on environment where everyone contributes to designing and building secure, scalable solutions.

Our team thrives on collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment to standardizing our solutions across all company products in a secure and efficient way.

What You’ll Do

Within 3 months, you will:

  • Be fully onboarded to your new team, familiarizing yourself with Clutch’s tools, processes, and culture.

  • Build strong relationships with your team members, leader, and cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Work in collaboration with developers and other stakeholders to enhance our platform.

  • Deliver your first feature to production within the DAO platform

  • Understand how CU-specific configurations work and how the team handles variation across clients

  • Be able to independently debug and troubleshoot issues within the DAO stack

Within 6 months, you will:

  • Ensure high-quality code, and enabling the efficient delivery of features and improvements.

  • Write elegant, efficient, and testable code that is easy to maintain and debug.

  • Take care of configurations and processes documentation so stakeholders understand how to use the platform

  • Own medium-to-large features from technical design through to production

  • Contribute to architectural discussions on how to scale CU-specific flows and configurations

  • Proactively identify and address technical debt or reliability gaps in your area

Within 9 months, you will:

  • As a true teammate, continuously improve the team’s processes, brainstorm ideas, and communicate statuses, and progress

  • Deliver a lot of new stuff to our products

  • Start identifying opportunities to deliver faster, reliable solutions and make initial contributions to architectural improvements.

  • Drive proposals for how to standardize and scale DAO configurations across CUs

  • Be a go-to person for your area of the codebase, unblocking teammates and reviewing their work

  • Contribute to cross-team discussions on platform-wide patterns and improvements

What You’ll Bring

  • 7+ years as a Software Engineer, with meaningful backend experience in fast-paced environments (SaaS and/or Fintech preferred)

  • Proficiency in backend technologies, preferably TypeScript, Node.js, and NestJS

  • Experience designing and building APIs and services in distributed systems; comfort making tradeoffs between speed, quality, and scalability

  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills — you dig into root causes, not surface-level fixes

  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development workflows; you use AI tools to amplify your output while maintaining full accountability for code quality

  • Ability to communicate technical decisions clearly to cross-functional partners (Product, Design, external stakeholders)

  • Excellent English communication (written and verbal)

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a remote-first environment

Please note that this role may evolve as our business needs change, so we appreciate your flexibility and adaptability.

What’s In It For You?

  • Remote Flexibility: Enjoy the freedom of remote work from anywhere, balancing life and career seamlessly.

  • Unforgettable Off-Sites: Twice a year, bond with colleagues in exciting destinations, fostering teamwork and fresh ideas.
