Job description

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a Remote Sensing Drone Operator at Auckland but travel will be required across operational sites in Waikato and Bay of Plenty. The role requires a person who is passionate about technology, surveying, geographical information system, and working outdoors. This is a great opportunity to expand your skills and contribute to quarry monitoring and development through advanced aerial and geospatial surveying.

About the role

This position is responsible for conducting remote sensing missions using Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) for topographical mapping of quarries, assets monitoring, as well as supporting surveying operations. Operating under a CAA Part 102 certification, there are complex UAV missions that provide opportunities to apply advanced mapping techniques for various terrain and equipment to deliver. Missions are to be planned and executed to deliver on-going support for quarrying activities.

In addition, the mapping operations captures high-resolution imagery that will then be processed through photogrammetry to provide actionable insights or outputs. These outputs are in the form of reports, plans, 3D model, orthophoto, and the means of geographic information system.

From planning to execution and to data processing, this role requires determination to see the operations through.

Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Plan, manage, and operate aerial surveys for stocktakes and quarry monitoring.

  • Perform calculations for cut and fill volumes, road grades, slope angles, surface areas, bund height/width.

  • Establish and maintain survey ground control points for consistency, and also conduct geospatial data collection using a GNSS rover.

  • Post-process survey data using GIS for reporting and collaboration.

  • Assist with engineering and quarry operations through construction stakeout and set-out surveys.

  • Ensure compliance with quality standards and safety procedures.

  • Drive continuous improvement by integrating new technologies.

About you

You are someone who loves seeing things through and is eager to learn a new skill. You enjoy working outdoors and are excited about using technology to improve operations. You are proactive, have attention to detail oriented, and willing to step up to new challenges.

Ideally, you have some experience in aerial surveying and drone operation, or you are keen to develop these skills with training. You understand the importance of accuracy and safety, and you have a positive, attitude. A full, clean Class 1 driver’s licence is essential, and an interest in geospatial technology will help you succeed in this role.
