Job description
Job Description
SmartPA is a leading provider of virtual PA, EA, administration and business automation services. We combine exceptional people with smart technology to help organisations run more efficiently, from ambitious SMBs to global corporates. Our client base is broad and growing, and we’re at an exciting stage where marketing has a real opportunity to accelerate that growth.
This is a role where you will genuinely shape how SmartPA is seen in the market.
Our Chief Commercial Officer carries overall responsibility for sales and marketing, supported by a small but effective Growth team. We have a freelance content writer who produces strong material, and a BD & Marketing Ops Manager who handles operational activity. What we need now is a Marketing Manager to sit at the centre of this; someone who can own our brand awareness and lead generation strategy, bring creative thinking and commercial rigour, and free the CCO from day-to-day marketing execution. Our clients range from owner-managed SMBs to large global businesses, and our marketing needs to resonate across that full spectrum. You’ll be responsible for making sure we show up correctly for each audience with the right message, the right channel, the right tone.
Key Responsibilities and Skills
Brand and positioning
Own SmartPA’s brand voice and ensure consistency across all channels and touchpoints
Develop and maintain clear messaging tailored to our different client personas, from the time-pressed SMB founder to the procurement lead at a global enterprise
Act as the internal guardian of how SmartPA presents itself, reviewing all external-facing content before publication
Content strategy and freelancer management
Own the content calendar and set the strategic direction for what we publish and why
Brief our freelance content writer with clear, well-researched briefs that reflect our audience, tone and commercial goals
Review, edit and approve all content output, ensuring it speaks authentically to each client segment
Identify content gaps and commission new formats including case studies, thought leadership, email sequences, landing pages, videos
Ensure we are presenting ourselves in the right way across all channels and formats
Lead generation and campaigns
Design and execute multi-channel lead generation campaigns targeting both SMB and corporate prospects
Plan and manage paid social and search activity, either directly or by briefing specialist resource
Build and optimise email nurture programmes that move prospects through the funnel
Work closely with the sales team to ensure marketing activity translates into qualified pipeline
HubSpot
Take ownership of HubSpot as the marketing source of truth — ensuring data is clean, segmented and actionable
Work with our BD & Marketing Ops Manager to build and manage automated workflows that support lead nurture, follow-up sequences and lifecycle marketing
Create and maintain dashboards and reports that give the CCO clear visibility of marketing performance
Export and analyse data to identify trends, optimise campaigns and inform strategic decisions
Market and competitive intelligence
Monitor competitor activity on an ongoing basis and maintain a regular competitive landscape summary for the CCO
Stay current on digital marketing trends relevant to the professional services and virtual services sector
Identify new channels, formats and audiences that SmartPA should be considering
Brand awareness and PR
Identify and pursue opportunities to raise SmartPA’s profile — awards, speaking slots, media coverage, partnerships
Work with our BD & Marketing Operations Manager to manage our social media presence with a consistent posting cadence and clear engagement strategy
Ensure our website accurately reflects our proposition and is kept current
Experience
Essential
3–5 years’ experience in a B2B marketing role, ideally within professional services, SaaS or a similarly client-focused sector
Proven experience managing HubSpot, including building workflows, segmenting lists and reporting on pipeline activity
Strong understanding of content marketing strategy and the ability to brief and manage external creative resource effectively
Experience running lead generation campaigns across digital channels including LinkedIn, email and paid search
Excellent written communication skills — you can write clearly and compellingly yourself, and you know how to improve someone else’s work
Commercially minded; you understand that marketing exists to drive revenue, not just awareness
Desirable
Experience marketing to both SMB and mid-market or enterprise audiences
Familiarity with SEO and GEO principles and optimisation
Experience working with or managing a freelance creative or content resource
Exposure to the virtual services, PA/EA, or business outsourcing sector
Work Remotely
Yes (but ideal if you can travel to our HQ in Edinburgh, periodically)
A genuine seat at the table in a commercially ambitious, growing business
Direct access and visibility with the CCO and other board members — your work will be seen and valued
The autonomy to build and own a marketing function rather than execute someone else’s plan
A collaborative, small-team environment where you’re trusted to get on with it
Remote working with the opportunity to travel to our Edinburgh City Centre office for meetings and team collaboration
Competitive salary commensurate with experience
How to Apply
You will be required to submit your CV and a cover letter. We'd love to understand not just your experience, but how you think about marketing, so use your cover letter to tell us about a campaign or initiative you're particularly proud of and what made it work. Examples of content you've briefed, campaigns you've run or HubSpot dashboard you've built are very welcome.
