About the role

The Claims Attorney Sr. (P3) (Coverage) serves as a key legal advisor supporting casualty claims, with a primary focus on coverage analysis and strategy. This role partners closely with claims professionals and leadership to evaluate policy coverage, assess legal risk, and guide resolution strategies on high-exposure and litigated matters. The attorney provides expert interpretation of insurance policies, develops defensible coverage positions, and influences outcomes through early identification of issues and proactive legal counsel.

This position also oversees outside counsel on coverage-related litigation, ensuring alignment with company strategy, efficient case management, and effective cost control. As a subject matter expert, the Claims Attorney contributes to training, best practices, and consistency in coverage application across the organization.

How does this role make an impact?

- Assigns cases to outside counsel and evaluates their performance.
- Provides legal advice and training to claims personnel to ensure consistent file handling.
- Controls litigation costs and claim severity.

- Responds to subpoenas, court orders and other legal requests in compliance with applicable laws and company policies.

- May attend pertinent trials but is not attorney of record.

- May provide oversight and supervision to outside counsel on claims-related litigation.

This role operates on a hybrid basis for employees within 50 miles of Bloomington, IL, and is fully remote for those outside of that range.

Base Pay Range:

$110,000-$151,250

The base pay range represents the typical range of potential salary offers for candidates hired. Factors used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, qualifications and experience.

Incentive Pay:

In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for a Short-Term Incentive plan.
