Operations Controller (AM) – Intermodal | Altona North

Team Global Express is seeking an experienced and highly organised Operations Controller (AM) to join our Intermodal team based at Altona North. This is a key operational role responsible for coordinating daily pickup and delivery activities, linehaul planning, rail and road movements, and ensuring customer and operational performance targets are achieved.

Working closely with the Branch Manager, drivers, warehouse teams, national linehaul, customers, and external vendors, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective movement of freight across the network.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Plan and coordinate daily local pickup and delivery activities
  • Generate connotes and prepare freight planning for next-day operations
  • Coordinate interstate road and rail linehaul movements
  • Work closely with warehouse, customer, and national linehaul teams
  • Maintain DIFOT and customer service performance targets
  • Manage driver workforce planning and resource allocation
  • Build and maintain strong customer and stakeholder relationships
  • Prepare and distribute operational and customer reports within deadlines
  • Investigate incidents and complete TRAC/Safety reporting requirements
  • Support operational improvement initiatives across the branch
  • Assist with rail coordination, DG, and bulk tank operations as required
  • Ensure staff inductions, training, and compliance requirements are maintained
  • Support a strong safety-first culture across the operation

About You

  • Previous experience in transport, linehaul, intermodal, or logistics operations
  • Strong understanding of NHVR, CoR, fatigue, load restraint, and transport compliance
  • Ability to work calmly and effectively in high-pressure operational environments
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience coordinating drivers, fleet operations, and customer requirements
  • Good problem-solving capability and ability to make operational decisions
  • Strong computer skills and ability to work across multiple systems
  • Sound understanding of how operational decisions impact cost and service outcomes
  • Positive attitude with a strong focus on teamwork and customer service

Additional Requirements

  • Starting Time: Between 7 AM - 9 AM
  • Flexibility to work overtime and weekends during operational requirements
  • Ability to participate in after-hours emergency support when required
  • Willingness to undertake additional training and development
