IT Cloud Engineer

General Job Summary

The IT Cloud Engineer is responsible for working as part of the Systems Team providing technical leadership in the specification, design, implementation, maintenance, and support of cloud and Azure-based technology infrastructure systems of University Bank. The IT Cloud Engineer partners with different groups within IT as well as business unit customers to clearly understand their requirements, implement cloud and terrestrial-based technology solutions and own the technology portions of the resulting system. The IT Cloud Engineer is also responsible for maintaining regulatory compliance with applicable IT processes and infrastructure, designing, and implementing appropriate system monitoring and performance reporting, developing, and maintaining technical roadmaps for IT and business technology infrastructure, and working with IT management to ensure alignment of IT with the needs and directions of business units.

Summary of Essential Job Functions

• Work closely with the IT management to develop and implement strategic plans and objectives to maintain and improve cloud-based Azure technology services to support all operations.
• Provide leadership to IT and University Bank in the implementation, maintenance, and support of cloud-based systems including servers, workstations, databases, identity management, configuration management, and security.
• Evaluate existing IT and business technology systems and develop / maintain technical roadmaps for those systems.
• Partner with IT and non-IT management to understand technical needs and develop technical solution recommendations to meet those needs both in cloud-based and terrestrial environments.
• Provide guidance on cloud-based licensing and support contracts and maintain licensing compliance at all times.
• Provide input on data protection, access, authentication control, resource management, monitoring, high availability, and fault tolerance in a scalable virtualized and cloud infrastructure.
• Implement technology solutions that ensure the design of system allows full integration into the existing and planned cloud-based IT infrastructure.
• Ensure cloud-based services have appropriate business continuity and tested disaster recovery capabilities at all times.
• Develop enterprise testing plans for integration of proposed new cloud-based technologies to be included in the enterprise design and develop test-related documentation.
• Identify and implement opportunities for increased efficiency, cost savings, and process automation within the IT technology infrastructure. 
• Partner with vendor partners in the design, specification, and implementation of new technology solutions including budget management, SLA compliance, and solution performance validation.
• Perform administration of network and resource structure including but not limited to server support, and Active Directory support.
• Participate in on-call after hours support, responding to support calls after hours/weekends/holidays, etc.
• Assist with regulatory compliance projects and documentation as needed, including but not limited to vendor risk reviews, department risk assessments, disaster recovery and business continuity plans, and IT audit and exam preparation and follow-up activities.
• Mentor and train IT employees on technology solution maintenance and support activities.
• Own and manage cloud-based technology design, implementation, conversion, and upgrade initiatives and collaborate with IT and business unit employees to ensure successful and cost-effective solutions.
• Participate in the annual IT budgeting process to ensure all capital, annual, and monthly costs are accurately recorded and forecasted.
• Maintain existing systems including patching, updates, and upgrades as needed.
• Document systems and support techniques, and cross train others within the IT department to ensure continuity of operations at all times.
• Provide assistance as needed for escalated issues and problems from other areas of IT and from business units.

Education, Training and Work Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or similar discipline highly preferred
• 6+ years of IT experience required.
• 4+ years of technical engineering experience highly preferred.
• 4+ years of cloud / Azure-based engineering experience
• Experience managing Azure tenants, licensing, and provisioning.
• Experience managing vendor relationships – contract reviews, managing service level agreements (SLAs) required.
• Experience with virtualized environments, cloud infrastructure, switch / router management, support of business applications, demonstrated customer service capabilities, back-up, and recovery, and understanding of cyber-security practices required.
• Experience working in a regulated industry, highly preferred.
• Project management experience highly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Engineer-level knowledge of cloud-based Azure technologies including servers, workstations, databases, security, and identity management.
• Advanced knowledge on Azure-hosted desktop provisioning, monitoring, and management
• Engineer-level knowledge of IT technology infrastructure components 
• Demonstrated experience with building positive working environments within an IT department and with business unit customers.
• Knowledge of monitoring and performance reporting systems.
• Experience with automation of IT tasks and increasing operational efficiencies.
• Ability to understand and track expenditures as compared to budget plans.
• Experience in designing, developing, and implementing integrated technology solutions across multiple business units.

Working Environment

Primary working environment is within an indoor climate-controlled office space and/or a private home office or some combination which will be at management’s sole discretion. Employee may be subject to florescent lighting, dust, and other normal indoor allergens. Employee may work in close proximity of coworkers and occasionally independently in quiet environments.

Physical Requirements

• Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Extended periods of sitting (at computer desk).
• Frequent periods of standing and moving around.
• Ability and means to travel on a flexible schedule as needed.
• May be required to work outside standard business hours.
• Complete repetitive tasks (including operation of computer mouse/keyboard).

The salary range for this role takes into consideration a wide range of factors including but not limited to the duties of the role, experience, location, and certificates and/or education. The target salary range for this position is between $100,000 and $140,000 per year.
