Scope of Position
Financial Counselor III provides advanced financial counseling and support to patients with complex financial needs, offering expert guidance on insurance coverage, medical costs, and financial assistance programs. The role manages challenging patients, mentors junior staff, and serves as a departmental resource while collaborating with clinical and revenue cycle teams to reduce financial barriers and ensure timely access to care.
Position Summary
The Financial Counselor III provides advanced financial support to patients by conducting comprehensive financial assessments, explaining complex cost and insurance scenarios, and assisting with applications with Medicaid, disability programs, charity care, and other specialized assistance. The role manages escalated, high-risk, and sensitive patients requiring expert knowledge of insurance rules, prior authorizations, billing processes, and multi-payer coordination.
The Financial Counselor III collaborates closely with clinical teams, management, pharmacy, and medication assistance program to resolve financial barriers, secure medication access, and ensure timely completion of all required documentation. In addition, the position prepares estimates for complicated procedures, establishes patient payment plans, participates in cross-departmental initiatives, and ensures full compliance with hospital policies, payer requirements, and regulatory standards.
Minimum Qualifications
Career Roadmap: High School diploma or GED. Certification or vocational training may be required. Associate degree in relevant field may be preferred. 2 years of relevant experience required. 4-6 years of relevant experience preferred.
