Roles & Responsibilities

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 5+ years of outpatient coding experience
  • 5+ years of experience as a manager with 5+ direct reports
  • Certification: RHIA, RHIT, CPC, CCS, CBCS or CCS-P required

Requirements:

  • Provide written status reports to PE Directors and lead/participate in special coding projects; oversee design, implementation and maintenance of coding applications
  • Supervise on-site and remote coding staff, perform annual employee evaluations, and ensure coding quality and compliance
  • Stay current with coding resources; communicate updates to the coding team; perform coding/abstracting as needed to meet deadlines
  • Develop training materials and conduct training for staff and outsourced vendors; manage task estimates and tracking to align with projections

Job Description:

Provides the PE Directors with written status reports, issues, and overall status of the projects assigned. Leads and participates in special projects. Participates in the design, implementation, and maintenance of coding applications. Participates in hiring and training an effective Corporate Coding Operations Team. Supervises on-site and remote coding staff. Performs annual employee evaluations. Regularly reviews official coding resources to stay current and communicates updates to the coding team. Prepares and distributes training materials to facilitate understanding. Conducts credible research to ensure educational material contains current, relevant, reliable, and factual detail. Performs coding and abstracting functions as required to meet deadlines. Provides training to outsourced coding vendors. Estimates and tracks task completion time to ensure alignment with projections. Other duties as assigned.

Obstetrics and/or Gynecology coding experience is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Substantial knowledge of outpatient workflows, outpatient and inpatient coding process.
• Knowledgeable with Microsoft software.
• Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Able to prepare training manuals, training schedules/timelines, and conduct web-based training.
• Ability to effectively operate equipment such as PC, LCD projector, microphone, video/web/tele-conference.
• Computer knowledge of Microsoft software, Power Point, Visio, electronic medical record applications, coding software.
• Current knowledge of outpatient coding.
• Current knowledge of coding compliance and medical necessity audit correction process.
• Ability to perform coding accuracy audits.
• Leadership skills.
• Progressive professional growth.
• Exhaustive knowledge of inpatient coding and working knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, MSDRG’s, APRDRG’s, HAC’s, POA indicators, CMI, and all regulatory compliance requirements.

Education:
• Bachelor's [Required]

Field of Study:
• Bachelors n marketing, or healthcare required OR an equivalent combination of education and relevent work experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirement.

Work Experience:
• 3+ computer knowledge of microsoft software, power point, visio, electronic medical record applications, coding software. [Preferred]
• 5+ experience [Required]
• 5+ of experience as a manager with 5 or more direct reports. [Required]
• 5+ of outpatient coding experience. [Required]
• 5+ related experience. [Preferred]
• Prior experience as a manager for remote employees [Preferred]

$66,170.74 - $123,073.07
