Roles & Responsibilities

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience building and scaling distributed systems.
  • Strong backend or full-stack development experience (e.g., Go, React, or similar technologies) and hands-on experience with relational databases and major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Experience building or leading AI-powered features with measurable business impact, with the ability to quantify AI-driven improvements (speed, quality, cost, scalability) and apply governance.

Requirements:

  • Own end-to-end delivery of critical platform components within the ELR ecosystem.
  • Design and implement APIs and services capable of handling high-throughput, global regulatory workloads.
  • Architect and integrate AI-driven components (e.g., intelligent validation engines, predictive workflows, pattern recognition, automation systems) and evaluate AI models with governance.
  • Influence technical direction through architectural proposals, data-driven reasoning, and drive reliability, performance, scalability, and responsible AI governance (data privacy, regulatory alignment, and risk mitigation).

O que você fará:

Avalara is an AI-first company, and this role combines building scalable software with developing AI-powered product capabilities that deliver measurable impact. You will design and evolve cloud-native tax compliance and e-invoicing solutions within the ELR platform, improving automation, accuracy, and efficiency at global scale.

You will build resilient distributed systems, develop AI-driven features, and partner with Product and Data teams to deliver secure, production-ready solutions. This role also focuses on simplifying complex regulatory challenges, embedding AI into engineering workflows, and raising the technical bar through strong architectural decisions and mentorship.

Quais serão as suas responsabilidades:
  • Own end-to-end delivery of critical platform components within the ELR ecosystem.
  • Design and implement APIs and services capable of handling high-throughput, global regulatory workloads.
  • Architect and integrate AI-driven components (e.g., intelligent validation engines, predictive workflows, pattern recognition, automation systems).
  • Evaluate AI models and tools with strong technical judgment, balancing accuracy, explainability, cost efficiency, compliance, and security.
  • Quantify and communicate the impact of AI-driven improvements (e.g., automation rates, defect reduction, performance gains, cycle time improvements).
  • Ensure responsible AI governance, including data privacy, regulatory alignment, and risk mitigation.
  • Influence technical direction through clear communication, architectural proposals, and data-driven reasoning.
  • Proactively identify performance, scalability, or reliability gaps and drive improvements.
  • Continuously elevate engineering standards across quality, observability, automation, and system simplicity.

  • Track record of influencing technical decisions and delivering complex, cross-functional initiatives
  • Experience building or leading AI-powered features with measurable business impact
  • Ability to quantify improvements driven by AI (e.g., speed, quality, cost, or scalability)
  • Strong judgment in selecting AI tools, models, and applying appropriate governance
  • Experience mentoring teams and raising overall AI capability
