Job description

Salary: Up to €110,000 per annum
Contract: Permanent, full-time
Location: Balbriggan (1 day per week onsite) + 4 days per week remote
Employer: Specialist Neurodevelopmental Assessment Service

The role

We are working with a specialist neurodevelopmental service to recruit a Clinical Psychologist to join their established ASD assessment team on a permanent basis.

This is a psychologist-led ASD diagnostic service delivering high-quality, comprehensive autism assessments for children and adolescents. The role offers an excellent balance of face-to-face clinical work and home-based working, with only one clinic day per week in Balbriggan and the remainder of the role completed remotely.

You will act as lead clinician for ASD assessments, working closely with Occupational Therapists and/or Speech & Language Therapists who contribute functional and sensory profiles to inform the overall formulation.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver full ASD diagnostic assessments
  • Complete clinical intake and informed consent
  • Conduct ADI-R developmental history interviews (virtual delivery supported)
  • Complete ADOS-2 assessments face to face in clinic
  • Carry out cognitive assessments (WISC-V / WAIS)
  • Integrate multidisciplinary assessment data into a clear diagnostic formulation
  • Provide feedback sessions to families
  • Produce high-quality comprehensive diagnostic reports
  • Participate in clinical supervision and service development activity

The ASD assessment pathway

Assessments are psychologist led, with structured MDT input:

Core components include:

  • Clinical intake and consent
  • ADI-R developmental history (virtual)
  • ADOS-2 direct observation (face to face)
  • Cognitive assessment (WISC-V or WAIS)
  • OT or SaLT functional and sensory assessment
  • Clinical formulation and diagnosis
  • Feedback session and written diagnostic report

While OT/SaLT colleagues contribute an essential functional and sensory profile, diagnostic responsibility remains with the psychologist, who integrates all assessment data into the final formulation and diagnosis.

Assessments are typically delivered across three to five appointments, allowing for a flexible and family-centred approach rather than a single intensive block.

Time expectations (indicative)

Psychologist client-facing time:
Approximately 5–7 hours per assessment, including intake, ADI-R, ADOS, cognitive assessment, and feedback.

Additional clinical time:
Scoring, formulation, integration of MDT input, and report writing typically require a further 6–10 hours, depending on complexity.

Essential criteria

  • Doctorate or equivalent qualification in Clinical Psychology
  • PSI Chartership (overseas qualifications must be validated with department of health)
  • Minimum 3 years post-qualification experience
  • Formal ADOS-2 training
  • Experience completing ASD assessments independently
  • Strong report-writing and diagnostic formulation skills

Desirable experience

  • ADI-R experience (formal training not essential for experienced clinicians)
  • Previous experience within a Children’s Disability Network Team (CDNT)
  • Experience working within neurodevelopmental or ASD-focused services

What’s on offer

  • Salary up to €110,000 per annum (DOE)
  • Permanent, secure role within a specialist service
  • Excellent work–life balance with 80% remote working
  • Structured clinical supervision and peer support
  • Opportunity to focus on assessment-only work, without ongoing caseload management
