WIFI Survey Technician

Position Overview

The Wi-Fi Survey Technician is responsible for analyzing, testing, and mapping wireless network coverage and performance at customer locations. This role involves performing on-site wireless surveys using Ekahau equipment and software to identify signal strength, dead zones, interference, and optimal Access Point (AP) placement to ensure strong and reliable network connectivity.

Technicians will complete active Wi-Fi survey scans, collect RF data, document findings, capture required site photos, and submit all deliverables to Essintial through designated reporting platforms. This position requires professionalism, strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in live customer environments.

Essential Responsibilities

On-Site Wireless Surveys

• Perform active Wi-Fi surveys using Ekahau Sidekick equipment and licensed survey software.
• Conduct wireless coverage analysis to measure: Signal strength, Signal-to-noise ratio, Coverage quality, Capacity and performance
• Walk the site with the survey actively running while carrying the laptop open and connected to the Ekahau Sidekick.

Data Collection & Analysis

• Collect RF (Radio Frequency) data using Ekahau, AirMagnet, or similar wireless mapping tools.
• Identify: Dead zones, Signal interference, Connectivity issues and Network Bottlenecks
• Ensure proper AP placement recommendations and accurate wireless mapping.

Documentation & Reporting

• Upload Ekahau raw survey data files to the Essintial SharePoint folder.
• Complete all required onsite deliverables including:
• Onsite Survey Checklist
• Site photos
• Essintial Online Deliverable Survey
• Create accurate documentation, reports, redlines, and survey notes.

Customer & Site Interaction

• Communicate professionally with onsite contacts and facility personnel.
• Maintain professionalism in active business environments and minimize disruption to operations.
• Follow all customer access procedures and security requirements.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Strong PC and laptop troubleshooting skills
• Understanding of Wi-Fi deployment concepts and wireless networking
• Ability to read and follow detailed written instructions
• Familiarity with:
• Ekahau Site Survey
• AirMagnet
• Similar wireless survey/mapping tools
• Strong organizational and documentation skills
• Ability to work independently in the field
• Travel 100%

• Ability to work in commercial, retail, warehouse, or enterprise environments
