Senior Medical Director, Regional Clinical Executive (RCE)

Role Summary

The Senior Medical Director serves as the Regional Clinical Executive (RCE), a pivotal clinical leadership role at the intersection of strategy, client impact, and innovation. This leader shapes how clinical insights translate into measurable outcomes advancing affordability, improving health outcomes, and strengthening client partnerships across a defined region.

As the senior clinical voice in the market, the RCE leads a high-performing team of medical and clinical executives (5–10+ direct reports) and partners closely across Sales, Network, Analytics, and Product to deliver differentiated value. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence enterprise priorities while driving tangible results at the regional and client level.

Key Responsibilities

Regional Clinical Leadership

  • Serve as the senior clinical leader for the region, accountable for strategy, execution, and outcomes
  • Translate enterprise clinical priorities into actionable, market-relevant strategies
  • Advance integrated models of care across medical, behavioral, and pharmacy domains

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop a diverse, high-performing team of clinical leaders
  • Drive talent strategy, succession planning, and performance management across the region
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous learning

Client & Market Impact

  • Partner with Sales and Growth Leaders to support client acquisition, retention, and expansion

  • Bring forward actionable insights on affordability, quality, and member experience

Strategic Execution & Performance

  • Drive measurable improvements in clinical quality, utilization, and cost outcomes

Enterprise & Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Operate seamlessly within a highly matrixed organization, influencing across functions and levels 
  • Partner across clinical, product, network, and analytics teams to deliver integrated solutions
  • Represent the organization externally as a clinical leader and thought partner

Qualifications

  • MD or DO required; MBA, MPH, MHA, or equivalent advanced degree preferred
  • Active, unrestricted medical license and current board certification (Primary Care preferred)
  • 10+ years of clinical practice experience
  • 7–10+ years of progressive leadership experience, including direct management of 5–10+ team members and regional/multi-market oversight
  • 5+ years in a healthcare business environment (payer, health plan, health system, consulting, or health tech)
  • Proven ability to lead within a complex, matrixed organization and influence cross-functional stakeholders 
  • Demonstrated track record of driving measurable outcomes (clinical quality, cost, growth, and client impact) 
  • Strong strategic, operational, and execution capabilities
  • Excellent communication skills and executive presence, with ability to engage senior stakeholders and external clients
  • Demonstrated leadership in talent development, change management, and cross-functional collaboration.

If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.

For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 262,400 - 437,400 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.

This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus and long term incentive plan.
