Roles & Responsibilities

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Pharmacy.
  • Must be eligible and obtain licensure as a Registered Pharmacist in the State of Texas within 90 days of residency start date, with extensions up to 30 days in extenuating circumstances.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to promote teamwork, build effective relationships, and lead/facilitate work groups.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy and hospital computer systems and computer-assisted devices; Pharmacy Sterile Product certification through an in-house program or other accredited program preferred.

  • Ensures safe patient care by adhering to policies, procedures and standards, within budgetary specifications, including time management, supply management, productivity and accuracy of practice.
  • Supports professional development and education by completing mandatory/continuing education, serving as a preceptor/mentor, and assisting with educational programs for physicians and nursing staff.
  • Participates in clinical research to evaluate clinical and economic outcomes of drugs and regimens; participates in utilization reviews for expensive, potentially harmful, or improperly used drugs.

Job Summary

Position is for post-graduate training in a structured pharmacy residency program under the supervision of clinical pharmacists and pharmacy staff. Through the training program, the incumbent provides clinical services to patients and professional staff; interacts with medical staff on drug utilization and cost containment; and provides pharmacy distribution services to patients.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduate of an accredited school of Pharmacy.

Licenses/Certifications: Must be eligible and obtain licensure as a Registered Pharmacist in the State of Texas within 90 days of residency start date. In extenuating circumstances, an extension may be granted by the site residency program for up to 30 days on a case-by-case basis.

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

  • Ability to promote teamwork, build effective relationships, and to lead/facilitate work groups

  • Strong customer service skills

  • Knowledge of pharmacy and hospital computer systems and computer-assisted devices

Principal Accountabilities

  • Participates in continuing education programs for pharmacy staff. Assists with implementation of educational programs for physicians and nursing staff.

  • Serves as a resource to pharmacy staff, physicians, and nurses.

  • Participates in the development and implementation of utilization reviews targeted for expensive, potentially harmful or improperly used drugs.

  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service

  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
