Sr. Underwriter Personal Lines E&S Homeowners

  • Reports to: VP Underwriting, E&S Homeowners

  • Travel: 20-30%

  • Salary Range: $120,000.00-$150,000.00

  • Location: Remote/Hybrid

Role overview

DUAL North America is seeking a Senior Underwriter for the E&S Homeowners division.   

The Senior Underwriter plays a vital role in executing company strategies and producing high volume profitable risks while developing and maintaining agency relationships. The Senior Underwriter ensures adherence to underwriting guidelines, acts as a point of contact for agents and drives performance against underwriting goals and metrics.

As a Senior Underwriter within the E&S Homeowners division, you will underwrite complex risks within authority, cultivate agency partnerships in collaboration with the Distribution team, and manage portfolio profitability.   

Role responsibilities

  • Responsible for assessing risk, allocate rate, apply appropriate terms, and profitability growth in line with DUAL strategy.

  • Emphasize production growth and retention to meet or exceed established goals.

  • Perform independently using appropriate underwriting tools, rules, underwriting guidelines, and regulatory insurance laws within the assigned Level of Authority.

  • Review inspections in a timely manner and identify all hazards with recommendations on how to correct or mitigate the adverse condition.

  • Develop and maintain agency relationships through in person visits, phone interactions and virtual meetings with the collaboration of the Distribution team.

  • Provides guidance, knowledge and development of other team members.

  • Complete tasks efficiently and proactively while maintaining work and life balance.

  • All round awareness of those aspects of the insurance industry that have a direct bearing on key responsibilities and accountabilities.

  • Maintain superior level business relations with internal and external parties.

  • Performs assigned projects and portfolio reviews.

  • Maintain carrier compliance and adhere to binding authority agreements

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key retail and wholesale agency partners, serving as the underwriting resource.

  • Drive agency performance through clear appetite communication, production targets, and portfolio stewardship discussions.

  • Support onboarding of new agents, including training on underwriting guidelines, product positioning, and submission expectations.

Key requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business preferred

  • 7+ years of relevant underwriting experience in California and western states

  • Prior non-admitted underwriting experience preferred

  • High level understanding of technical underwriting principles and risk assessment

  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills

  • High level broker/client engagement and relationships

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

  • Demonstrated ability to handle complex risks with sound judgment

  • Highly self-motivated with strong attention to detail

  • Ability to emphasize prioritization with desk management and production goals

  • Must work well in a team environment; collaboration and teamwork are at the core of the organization

  • Ability to travel 20-30% as required for client meetings, conferences, or industry events

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position approximately 50% of the time, with occasional movement throughout the office to access files and equipment
