Mobile Engineer, React Native (m/w/d)

Build digital learning products for riders worldwide

At wehorse, we are a sports-tech building digital products that help riders learn, train, and improve together with their horses. Think Duolingo and Strava combining high-quality video courses, mobile learning, community, tracking features and AI-powered experiences that make training progress actionable.

We are looking for an Mobile Engineer to strengthen our product engineering team with a clear focus on mobile. This role is a great fit for someone who is strong in React Native, enjoys building awesome mobile experiences, and also has the React and Next.js skills needed to work across our web platform when needed.

You will help us build the next generation of our mobile experience, especially around rider and horse tracking and AI-enabled features, while also keeping our web platform reliable and well maintained. Of course you don't need to have any experience with horses or horseback riding.

What you will do

• Build, maintain, and improve our React Native mobile app
• Work in a team of frontend- and backend engineers as well as product owners and designers
• Develop mobile-first features around tracking, training progress, and AI features
• Turn product and design direction into reliable, polished mobile UX
• Maintain and improve our Next.js web frontend where needed
• Navigate and improve an existing codebase with care and good judgment
• Use AI coding tools effectively along the entire lifecycle
• Make pragmatic technical decisions around architecture, maintainability, performance, and speed
• Review code and help improve our frontend and mobile engineering practices

• Advanced experience with React Native, or strong mobile development experience with clear motivation to grow further
• Solid experience with React and Next.js to contribute to our web platform when needed
• Good judgment around architecture, refactoring, technical debt, and maintainability
• Experience using AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, Cursor, or similar tools
• Comfort with modern deployment workflows and cloud infrastructure, ideally AWS
• Strong debugging, problem-solving, and code-reading skills
• Clear communication and a practical, low-ego working style
• Ability to work well and independently in a remote-first environment
• Willingness to come to the office for team events
• Openness to feedback, learning, and continuous improvement
• Fluent in German and English

Nice to have

• Experience with native iOS or Android development
• Experience mentoring other developers
• Experience in small teams with high ownership
