Roles & Responsibilities

  • Expert knowledge of KubeVirt (OpenShift Virtualization) and legacy hypervisors (VMware ESXi, Hyper-V, or RHV)
  • Deep experience with Bare Metal deployments and hardware provisioning (Metal3, Ironic)
  • Advanced L2/L3 networking, Load Balancing, and CNI (OVN-Kubernetes, Calico)
  • Distributed storage knowledge (Ceph/ODF), NVMe performance tuning, and backup tools (OADP/Velero)

Requirements:

  • Lead architectural design workshops to assess legacy VMware/Hyper-V environments and design future OpenShift architectures; develop large-scale migration strategies using the Migration Toolkit for Virtualization (MTV); present technical roadmaps and business-value cases to IT leadership
  • Deploy and secure OpenShift clusters on bare-metal or hybrid-cloud environments; configure advanced networking (SR-IOV, OVN-K, Multus) and storage (OpenShift Data Foundation/Ceph)
  • Build automation and GitOps pipelines using Ansible and ArgoCD to manage Infrastructure as Code for both containers and VMs
  • Provide Day-2 operations mentoring to client teams (monitoring, backup with OADP/Velero, troubleshooting) and contribute to Red Hat's Communities of Practice by sharing best practices and reusable automation assets

Key Responsibilities

1. Architectural Design & Strategy

  • Discovery & Design: Lead workshops to assess legacy environments (VMware/Hyper-V) and design "future-state" OpenShift architectures.
  • Migration Planning: Develop large-scale migration strategies using the Migration Toolkit for Virtualization (MTV).
  • Strategic Advisory: Present technical roadmaps and business-value cases to IT leadership to justify infrastructure shifts.
     

2. Technical Implementation (Hands-on)

  • Cluster Deployment: Build and secure OpenShift clusters on bare-metal or hybrid-cloud environments.
     
  • Networking & Storage: Configure advanced networking (SR-IOV, OVN-K, Multus) and software-defined storage (OpenShift Data Foundation/Ceph).
     
  • Automation & GitOps: Build automated pipelines using Ansible and ArgoCD to manage "Infrastructure as Code" (IaC) for both containers and VMs.
     

3. Enablement & Mentorship

  • Customer Training: Provide "over-the-shoulder" mentoring to client teams on Day-2 operations (monitoring, backup with OADP/Velero, and troubleshooting).
  • Internal Leadership: Contribute to Red Hat's "Communities of Practice" by sharing best practices and developing reusable automation assets.

Preferred Certifications but not Mandatory

  • EX316: Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Virtualization (Crucial).
  • RHCE: Red Hat Certified Engineer (Ansible-based).
  • EX280: Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration.
