Roles & Responsibilities

  • Professional compensation certifications (e.g., CCP) strongly preferred; strong knowledge of compensation legislation in Canada and the US

Requirements:

  • Lead annual merit cycle; conduct market research on salary budgets; develop training materials and train HR community and Managers on required process steps
  • Partner with Head of Total Rewards and Finance on annual short-term incentive payout and monthly accrual process; ensure timely reporting, data collection, and audits for accuracy
  • Manage other variable compensation programs by preparing calculation files, data audits, and coordinating payments with payroll department
  • Lead job description harmonization project by creating standardized job descriptions for use across all business lines and performing job evaluations as required

Job Description

The Senior Compensation Analyst, North America is responsible for providing advanced analysis and administration of the compensation programs that support SGS North America compensation strategy. The role ensures compliance, external competitiveness and internal equity of compensation programs in Canada and the United States. 

  • Ensures all compensation programs align with legal requirements: FLSA, pay equity laws, transparency regulations, minimum wage.  Supports pay equity and pay transparency reporting in Canada.
  • Leads annual merit cycle. Conducts market research on salary budgets, supports system preparations, completes data audits, develops training materials and trains HR community and Managers on required process steps.
  • Partners with Head of Total Rewards and Finance team on annual short term incentive payout and monthly accrual process. Responsible for timely reporting, HR data collection and audit of information to ensure accurateness and completeness. Manages other variable compensation programs by preparing calculation files, data audits, and coordinates payments with payroll department.
  • Leads job description harmonization project by partnering with business and HR partners to streamline our job description depository. Creates job descriptions that are designed for use across all business lines and are consistent in format, style, and comprehensive in content. May perform job evaluations as required.
  • Develops, maintains, and enhances compensation models, dashboards, and reports using advanced Excel skills. Analyzes large data sets to identify trends, investigate inconsistencies, and opportunities for compensation data improvements.
  • May participate in salary surveys submissions and data analysis to ensure accurate market positioning.
  • Conducts ad-hoc analyses, compensation reviews and approvals of new hire or internal offer recommendations, off- cycle adjustments.  Provides advice and guidance to leaders and HR professionals in the interpretation and administration of all compensation programs.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • University degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Economics, Finance or related field.
  • Minimum 7 yrs of hands-on compensation experience supporting Canadian and US compensation programs in large corporate environment.
  • Hands-on experience and expert level proficiency in Excel (advanced functions, lookups, pivot tables, data modeling).

Licenses / Certifications

  • Professional compensation certifications (e.g. Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) strongly preferred.

Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities

  • Professional written and verbal communication with employees, managers, vendors, and senior stakeholders
  • Interpretation of compensation data, cost modeling, and financial impacts.
  • Analysis and resolution of complex, non‑routine compensation scenarios requiring independent judgement.
  • Advanced use of HR systems, MS office applications (especially Excel), and reporting tools.
  • Regulatory Compliance Strong knowledge of, interpretation and application of Compensation legislation in both Canada and the US.
  • Ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
  • Deep understanding of compensation principles, job evaluation methodologies, market pricing techniques, and pay equity best practices.
