  • Oversee all Purdue Global VSSS program activities, establish relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensure compliance with U.S. Department of Education laws and regulations, and implement, coordinate, and evaluate support/services in consultation with project staff, the campus community, and external partners; collaborate with the DOE Program Officer.
  • Manage and professionally develop program staff: hire, train, and supervise all staff; design and implement recurring training; identify professional development opportunities related to TRIO/VSSS programs.
  • Budget management: develop and disseminate budgets, grant proposals, and other reports; maintain and submit required records of program activity and participants; prepare and submit the Annual Performance Report (APR).
  • Support office functions by completing other duties and special projects directly related to the VSSS program; be available to work evenings, weekends, and travel as needed.

Our Opportunity:

The Director, Veteran Student Support Services (VSSS) will provide support to Purdue University Global.  Building on Purdue University's mission to provide greater access to affordable, high-quality education, Purdue University Global is a public, nonprofit institution offering a world-class education online.

 

The project this position serves is a 5 year grant cycle funded through September 24, 2030, requiring funding approval from the Department of Education each year throughout the funding cycle. Job Summary:

The Director, Veteran Student Support Services (VSSS) oversees and manages support services within the regulations set forth by the U.S. Department of Education (DoE) to assist eligible veteran students to successfully persist to graduation. This position develops key quality control and oversight mechanisms, with appropriate internal and external reporting.  The VSSS Director drives continuous improvement of participants’ experience with processes and metrics uniquely tailored to this population.

What to expect in this role:

  • Oversees all PG VSSS program activities, including but not limited to:
    • Establishing relationships with internal and external stakeholders, services agencies and other external stakeholders.
    • Ensuring the program is compliant with the U.S. Department of Education laws and regulations.
    • Implementing, coordinating, and evaluating support and services in consultation with project staff, the campus community, and external partners.
    • Working in unison with the U.S. Department of Education Program Officer.

    • Identify professional development opportunities, both virtual and in person, related to TRIO/VSSS programs

  • Support the office functions by completing all other duties and special projects as assigned directly related to the VSSS program. Hours of work may include evening, weekend and occasional travel.

Experience:

  • Master’s degree in counseling, education, higher education, education administration, or other related field.

What we're looking for:

  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office suite software, such as MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint, as well as Google applications such as Gmail, Chat and Hangout.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment with minimal supervision, balance competing demands for time, and prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
  • Effective analytical skills with the ability to assess situations, resolve issues or make recommendations as appropriate.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to adapt communication style and method to suit different audiences.
  • Capable of building strong working relationships across teams, departments and Schools.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate with a professional demeanor with people at all levels within the organization.
