Roles & Responsibilities

  • Bachelor's degree in urban planning, landscape architecture, geography, public policy, or related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • 3+ years (mid-level) or 7+ years (senior) of relevant federal planning experience, with project management and client engagement experience for senior-level roles
  • AICP certification is a strong plus; additional certifications in GIS, LEED, Sustainable Sites, charrette facilitation, or related areas are beneficial
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; technical skills in Adobe Creative Suite, CAD, GIS or similar tools; excellent research, writing, and communication skills; ability to work independently; willingness to travel up to 15%

Requirements:

  • Support federal planning requirements for DoD and potentially NPS, FEMA, BLM, and other agencies, including community planning, facilities planning, master planning, resilience planning, engagement and facilitation, and partnership development
  • Produce high-quality analyses, reports, graphics, and written deliverables; communicate findings clearly in written, graphic, and verbal formats
  • Contribute to or lead planning projects as needed, demonstrating strong organization and client engagement abilities (mid-level: support; senior-level: lead teams and client relations)
  • Travel up to 15% for charrettes, workshops, meetings, and site visits; comply with background checks and security requirements (I-9, eligibility for secret clearance if required)

Senior or Mid-Level Federal Planner

Marstel-Day, LLC, a premier environmental, planning, and sustainability consulting firm, is seeking a Mid-level or Senior-level Planner to support innovative solutions for community planning, facilities planning, master planning, resilience planning, engagement and facilitation, partnership development, and other planning requirements. 

The Planner will support federal planning requirements with the Department of Defense (DOD) and may also support requirements for the National Park Service (NPS), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), and other federal agencies; along with requirements for state and local governments, private entities, and/or nongovernmental organizations. 

This position may be hired as a Mid-Level Planner or a Senior Planner. Strong candidates will possess exceptional research, analysis, and writing skills along with personal motivation and a creative approach to the execution of project requirements. Strong knowledge of community planning processes is required along with excellent written, graphic, and verbal communication skills. Strong senior-level candidates will possess federal project management and/or team leadership experience and client engagement skills. 

Qualification Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, landscape architecture, geography, public policy, or similar fields; Master’s degree is a plus. 
  • Certification through the American Institute of Certified Planners is a strong plus. Other certifications in areas of landscape architecture, LEED, Sustainable Sites, charrette facilitation, GIS, or similar areas are a benefit. 
  • Experience for federal projects is a strong plus.
  • Mid-level candidates require 3+ years of relevant experience. 
  • Senior-level candidates require 7+ years of relevant experience. Candidates with higher levels of experience including project management and client relationship management experience will be considered.
  • Self-motivation and ability to work independently in a flexible work environment is required. 
  • Strong candidates will have intellectual curiosity paired with a high level of organization and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite programs Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required. 
  • Technical skills with Adobe Creative Suite, CAD, GIS, similar software tools, and/or hand renderings is a strong plus. 
  • Up to 15% travel is required to support charrettes, workshops, meetings, and site visits.

The incumbent must:

  • Be eligible to work in the U.S. (DHS Form I-9 must be completed by the incumbent and submitted to DHS for verification of citizenship and eligibility through E-Verify)
  • Submit to a background check as a condition of any final offer of employment.
  • If required, submit to required background and credit checks in order to obtain and maintain a secret clearance. This required contingency and evaluation continues even after hiring.

Salary and Benefits:

The Company offers a very flexible work environment with competitive salaries and benefits. We pay a competitive salary or wage commensurate with the incumbent’s level of education, certification/registration, experience, and responsibilities. If hired as a Mid-Level Planner, the salary range is $72K-95K. If hired as a Senior Planner, the salary range is $85K-130K. Full time employees receive access to a Company provided health plan and 401(k) plan; receive disability and life insurance coverage; receive holiday and personal leave accruals and other benefits.
