Intern Medical Policy

Job Summary

​​​​​​​​​​​​​The Intern Medical Policy position is a formal training/development role with defined responsibilities and a structured work plan for the duration of the internship. The intern will support the Medical Policy team through research, evidence review, and written synthesis of medical policy topics under the direct supervision of a Contractor Medical Director. The internship is designed to provide educational experience aligned with the intern’s academic coursework and culminates in a written final report.

Essential Functions

Key Duties/Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  • Conducts background research on assigned medical policy topics, including review of clinical literature, publicly available CMS guidance, and existing coverage policies
  • Summarizes and synthesizes findings into written briefs for a Medicare policy audience
  • ​Assists in reviewing existing Local Coverage Determinations (LCDs) or related policy documents to understand policy structure and clinical rationale
  • Participates in training activities, team meetings, and scheduled check ins with the supervising CMD 
  • ​Develops and completes a defined internship project resulting in a written final report 
  • ​Creates documentation and written materials in support of assigned work 
  • ​Researches and gathers information in support of policy related projects

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health or related field as determined by HR
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong problem solving, leadership, and analytical skills
  • Possesses knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications

Above requirements and the following:

  • Knowledge of Policy Development and/or Evidentiary review is helpful 
  • ​Currently pursuing a Masters or higher degree in Public Policy or related field.

Environment and Cognitive/Physical Demands

  • Office Environment
  • Ability to read, hear, speak, keyboard, reason, communicate effectively and problem solve
  • Requires prolonged sitting and telephone usage
  • Requires the use of office equipment such as computers, telephones, copiers and printers
  • Infrequent stooping
  • Infrequent lifting up to 15 pounds

Below is the salary range for potential new hires.

Salary Range: The pay range for this position is $15.66 – $20.60 hourly, however, the base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
