The Associate Counsel will serve as a junior attorney to join our legal team in a generalist supporting capacity, providing comprehensive legal assistance to senior attorneys while gaining valuable experience across multiple areas of healthcare law. In this role, you will conduct legal research and writing for both legal and clinical/operations teams, review agreements, advise on federal and state healthcare regulations, and manage critical licensing and regulatory filings related to our multi-state, risk-bearing physician group operations, including Medicare and Medicaid compliance. You will collaborate closely with regulatory team attorneys on diverse matters including privacy, telemedicine, scope of practice, billing and coding regulations, while helping to drive strategic and operational initiatives that ensure legal compliance across our growing organization. This position offers an exceptional opportunity for a mission-driven attorney with 1-3 years of post-JD experience to contribute meaningfully to an organization dedicated to delivering innovative care models to underserved populations, while developing expertise in the dynamic and rapidly evolving field of healthcare law. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Review and update the organization on new healthcare laws which may impact the organization. 

  • Perform legal research and writing for both lawyers and the business.

  • Draft and/or review a wide variety of contracts between Cityblock and third parties, including business associates, vendors, consultants and potential payor partners.

  • Support the People team in navigating a wide variety of employment law issues, including employee relations issues, and assist in managing outside L&E counsel. 

  • Support the Talent team in negotiating employment-related contracts and addressing candidate questions that implicate legal.   

  • Draft and review employee-related policies and procedures. 

  • Assist on a variety of corporate matters, including board governance, IP, equity administration and entity management.

  • Advise on relevant federal and state healthcare regulations that impact our organization.

  • Manage licensing and regulatory filings related to operating a risk-bearing, multi-state, physician group.

  • Help regulatory team manage strategic and/or operational initiatives to satisfy regulatory concerns and/or comply with related requirements.

  • Serve as a generalist supporting all attorneys with research and writing tasks.

Requirements:

  • JD Degree. Barred in at least one state with the ability to register as in-house counsel in New York. 

  • 1-3 years of relevant legal work experience

  • Excellent legal research and writing skills  

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Radical candor and comfortability working within an often ambiguous, high growth environment

We take into account an individual’s qualifications, skillset, and experience in determining final salary. This role is eligible for health insurance, life insurance, retirement benefits, participation in the company’s equity program, paid time off, including vacation and sick leave. The actual offer will be at the company’s sole discretion and determined by relevant business considerations, including the final candidate’s qualifications, years of experience, skillset, and geographic location. The expected salary range for this position is: 

$132,000.00 - $145,000.00
