Roles & Responsibilities

  • Advanced science/clinical degree (PharmD, PhD, MD).
  • Minimum 2-5 years of MSL experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry (Sr MSL: 5+ years with at least 2 years as an MSL concentrated on field-based scientific exchange).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong organizational and project management abilities.
  • CNS therapeutic area experience, particularly epilepsy; knowledge of regional healthcare systems and clinical practices preferred.

Requirements:

  • Identify and develop relationships with medical/scientific key opinion leaders (KOLs) and other healthcare providers (HCPs) aligned with Clinical Development and Medical Affairs strategy.
  • Develop and maintain relevant scientific, clinical, and therapeutic expertise in Neurology; engage providers in scientific exchange and disease-state education around epilepsy and emerging therapies.
  • Capture actionable field insights and provide periodic reports to MSL management and internal colleagues; provide medical/scientific support to managed care accounts and market access organizations.
  • Represent Neurelis at local, regional, and national meetings and conferences; support internal medical and cross-functional colleagues; proactively identify and assist in clinical studies/investigator-initiated studies; participate in special project teams; ensure compliance with all policies and regulations.

Job Summary/Objective:


The Medical Science Liaison / Senior Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a professional with scientific knowledge, clinical acumen, and therapeutic area expertise who is responsible for conducting medical and scientific field-based initiatives consistent with the goals and objectives of the Clinical Development and Medical Affairs department. The MSL conducts tactical and compliant peer-to-peer scientific interactions (e.g., topics such as product, product candidates, drug class, formulations, and various disease states) with key opinion leaders, healthcare professionals, and formulary decision makers in alignment with Neurelis’ strategic objectives.


Essential Job Functions:  

  • Identify and develop relationships with medical/scientific key option leader (KOL) and other healthcare providers (HCP) consistent with the strategy and objective of Clinical Development and Medical Affairs. 
  • Develop and maintain relevant scientific, clinical, and therapeutic expertise in Neurology.
  • Engage healthcare providers in scientific exchange and disease state education around current and emerging therapies within epilepsy and other therapeutic areas aligned with Neurelis’ emerging pipeline. 
  • Capture actionable insights from the field and provide periodic reports to MSL management and internal colleagues. 
  • Provide medical/scientific support and presentations to managed care accounts and other market access organizations. 
  • Represent Neurelis at local, regional, and national meetings and conferences. 
  • Provide appropriate scientific, medical, and educational support for internal medical and cross-functional colleagues as assigned. 
  • Proactively identify and assist in facilitation of clinical studies/investigator- initiated studies as assigned.
  • Lead/participate in special project teams as necessary.  
  • Ensure policies, procedures, and guidance are adhered to and perform all company business in accordance with company compliance rules and all regulations (e.g. FDA, PhRMA Code, EEO, etc.).


Competency (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • Prior experience demonstrating success within an MSL role.
  • Corporate experience in the CNS therapeutic area (particularly within epilepsy) highly preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills. 
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Ability to communicate scientific and clinical information clearly and credibly. 
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills; demonstrated personnel management capabilities.

Physical Demands and Work Environment: 


Field Demands and Work Environment: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Requires extensive daily driving, getting in and out of an automobile, carrying materials and samples (10 to 20 pounds), going up and down stairs and walking throughout medical buildings and to and from physician offices.


Travel Requirements:

  • Ability to travel up to 50%.

Requirements

Minimum Education and Experience Required:

  • Advanced science / clinical degree (Pharm D., Ph.D., M.D.). 
  • MSL level: A minimum of 2-5 years’ experience in the biotechnology of pharmaceutical industry. 
  • Sr MSL level: A minimum of 5 years' experience with a minimum of 2+ years as an MSL with primary emphasis on field-based scientific exchange.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Minimum 2+ years of clinical or therapeutic area experience. 
  • Knowledge of regional-specific healthcare systems and clinical practices related to patient care.
Salary Description
MSL: $193,000-$214,000 | Sr MSL: $214,000-$237,000
