The Alumni Class Notes Editor provides administrative support and performs basic communications duties. Responsibilities require significant collaboration and coordination with others.
The Alumni Class Notes Editor will collect and coordinate the production of the class notes and obituaries for the Alumni News and Notes section of the Johns Hopkins Magazine. Class notes and obituaries are submitted by alumni, their family members, and their employers. The magazine is published quarterly and is distributed to more than 140,000 Johns Hopkins graduates, faculty, and friends of the university, and viewed online.
The Office of Development Communications for Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) helps Johns Hopkins realize its mission of providing knowledge for the world by communicating the successes and priorities of the Johns Hopkins Institutions. The office increases awareness of philanthropic impact and opportunities by promoting giving and engagement with Johns Hopkins.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
- Write, edit, and collect data.
- Perform basic website and social media updates.
- Draft content for web and publications.
- Maintain digital assets and general office archives.
In addition to the duties described above, the Alumni Class Notes Editor will:
- Rewrite or edit class notes for clarity and length
- Fact-check information and confirm alumni affiliations in constituent data base
- Follow style per “The Associated Press Stylebook” and Johns Hopkins University Editorial Style Guide
- Format information according to magazine guidelines
- Meet deadlines provided by the project supervisor
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.
- Two years related work experience.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education permitted by the JHU equivalency formula beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
- Related experience in journalism, media relations, public affairs, marketing communications, or a similar field
- Ability to work independently
- Excellent writing, editing, and organizational skills
- Proven ability to meet deadlines
- Knowledge of the institution and its environment
