Job Description:

Mount Holyoke College's Athletics Department is searching for qualified Lifeguards to join our team. As a visible representative of the College, Lifeguards ensure a safe, professional, and welcoming aquatic environment for our students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors.

Lifeguards are responsible for the safety and well-being of all patrons using the Kendall indoor pools. This includes overseeing open recreation, Fitness Swim programs, and summer conferences. We are looking for individuals who can balance high-level surveillance with excellent customer service. This is a temporary, part-time position with shifts available afternoons, some evenings, and weekends. Cover letters are not required for this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain 360-degree surveillance of the pool and diving well using the "5-Minute Scan" principle.

  • Immediately initiate the Emergency Action Plan (EAP) when needed; provide first aid, CPR, or lifesaving rescues as certified.

  • Firmly and courteously enforce pool rules and state regulations to prevent accidents before they happen.

  • Conduct water chemistry tests (pH/Chlorine), manage equipment inspections, and operate the automatic pool vacuum.

  • Manage facility access (keys/locker rooms), maintain accurate patron tallies, and wear the required MHC Lifeguard uniform.
