Overview:

We’re looking for a Staff Program Manager to lead the strategy, execution, and evolution of breadth developer programs—large-scale, repeatable initiatives that reach and support developers across regions, personas, and technical ecosystems. This role brings operational rigor, strategic thinking, and strong cross-functional leadership to programs that need to scale globally while staying developer-first. Developer programs are a core part of how GitHub shows up for the developer community, and in this role you’ll help shape how these programs grow and operate by building the systems and structure that enable inclusive, high-impact engagement across the global developer ecosystem.

Responsibilities:

Lead and Scale Breadth Developer Programs

  • Own and drive the vision, strategy, and long-term roadmap for breadth developer programs, aligning with GitHub and Microsoft’s broader developer platform priorities.
  • Establish clear success frameworks and evolve them to measure ecosystem impact at global scale.
  • Identify systemic gaps and emerging opportunities across the developer ecosystem, and incubate new or transform existing programs to increase reach, relevance, and impact.
  • Serve as a thought leader and subject matter expert in developer engagement, influencing direction across Developer Relations, Product, Engineering, and Marketing.
  • Build strong, trust-based partnerships across internal teams, influence senior stakeholders and leadership to align on priorities and deliver cohesive developer experiences.
  • Represent the voice of developers in internal forums, ensuring product and program decisions are grounded in real-world developer needs and insights.

Advocate for Developers and Ecosystem Growth

  • Act as a strategic advocate for developers and open source communities, ensuring programs are inclusive, accessible, and globally relevant.
  • Build durable mechanisms to capture, synthesize, and operationalize developer feedback into product and program improvements.
  • Strengthen GitHub’s role as a central hub for developer communities by designing programs that drive engagement, contribution, and long-term ecosystem health.
  • Cultivate relationships with key community leaders, maintainers, and partners to amplify reach and credibility.

Drive Operational Excellence and Program Rigor

  • Lead complex, multi-year, and multi-region programs with end-to-end accountability for planning, execution, and impact.
  • Develop and implement scalable operating models, governance structures, and tooling to ensure consistent execution across teams and geographies.
  • Translate strategy into execution through clear roadmaps, prioritization frameworks, and measurable milestones.
  • Proactively manage risks, dependencies, and trade-offs across multiple high-visibility initiatives.
  • Leverage data, experimentation, and feedback loops to continuously optimize program performance and ROI.

Scale Content, Learning, and Developer Engagement

  • Define and drive strategy for developer-facing content and enablement programs across formats (docs, blogs, video, tutorials, live experiences).
  • Oversee execution of high-impact global programs such as events, hackathons, and learning initiatives, ensuring consistency, quality, and scalability.
  • Establish best practices, governance, and tooling to scale content production and distribution while maintaining a high bar for developer value.
  • Enable teams to deliver compelling, technically credible content that aligns with strategic priorities and resonates with diverse developer audiences.
Qualifications:

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • 8+ years experience in product/service/project/program management, software development, product design, or related field
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in related field AND 6+ years experience in product/service/project/program management, software development, product design, or related field
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years people management experience.
  • 3+ years experience leading large-scale, complex, cross-functional programs with global reach and executive visibility.
  • 3+ experience working closely with technical teams, developer audiences, and/or open-source communities.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience defining strategy and driving execution for complex, cross-functional programs in ambiguous or evolving environments.
  • Experience influencing senior leaders and cross-organizational stakeholders to align priorities and drive outcomes without direct authority.
  • Experience defining program metrics, evaluating trade-offs, and using data and feedback to shape strategy and execution.
