Position Overview:
Power your future with Qualus in our Program Management department as a Construction Manager. The Construction Manager is responsible for ensuring that constructability meets Qualus and our clients’ expectations of the quality of each assigned project, to ensure compliance within required construction codes, local jurisdictional requirements. budgetary, scheduling, and safety goals. Employees in this role coordinate and manage electrical utility transmission line (115/230/345kv) construction work performed by contractors at the project site. Employees in this role manage the construction activities of all projects withing the Major Projects/EPC Group of Qualus.
Responsibilities:
- Manages and inspects the day-to-day activities of multiple electric contractor crews, for transmission line project work.
- Facilitates the installation of electric infrastructure and ensures that all safety standards, company construction standards, company specifications and governmental regulations are met.
- Manages work to ensure that all performance objectives for cycle time and cost are on target.
- Makes the proper notification to all federal, state and local agencies before, during and after construction as required.
- Prior to commencement of construction, coordinates with customer(s) at the jobsite to determine specific customer requirements, construction sequencing and provides site readiness verification.
- Maintains frequent and regular contact with contractor supervision regarding job performance and documents results appropriately.
- Ensures that the terms and conditions of the contract and technical specifications are met.
- Verifies key unit quantities.
- Makes the necessary field decisions regarding job changes and communicates them as necessary to the Supervisor and Program or Project Manager; documents all job changes to ensure compliance and ensures the updates get documented in the appropriate information technology systems.
- Schedules and coordinates all required electric system outages. Performs weekly safety audits of crews and documents performance in the Asset Suite Safety Audit/Observation Tool.
- Coordinates permit and work-with requirements with third party utilities and permit agencies.
- Reviews and approves all documents submitted by the contractor verifying the accuracy and completeness of the documentation.
- Regularly communicates job status to the appropriate parties to facilitate scheduling commitments.
- Maintains customer coordination during construction phase and conducts job walk-down with customer and contractor at job completion.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in electric transmission infrastructure construction, or similar.
- Knowledge of 115/230/345KV transmission line construction/maintenance (e.g. pole setting, rigging, crane pads, structure counterpoise, line stringing, fiber optics, etc.).
- Knowledge of electric transmission and distribution construction practices.
- Ability to read and understand Plan and Profile drawings, on line diagrams, substation construction drawings and construction specifications.
- Knowledge of High Voltage clearances and equal potential grounding techniques.
- Understand maintenance of erosion controls measures associated with access and transmission line construction
- Knowledgeable and capable in the utilization of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the purposes of performing line work and switching tasks. Specific to the use and understanding of live line work practices with insulated tools and rubber glove usage for switching, worker protective grounding, and earth grounding mitigation practices.
- Ability and knowledge of electrical switching and tagging.
- Possess the ability to become identified on the VT Transco-approved switching and tagging list and perform switching, tagging, and hold clearance and tags under the direction of the VELCO System Operator.
- Knowledge of safety hazards associated with transmission line work.
